Ok...I thought Funeka won the fight CLEARLY.

But Please do not be so quick to put Funeka in a category with the Best at 135lbs & 140lbs!!!

If there are any real Guzman fans out there...they will be the first to tell you...that This was NOT the Guzman of recent memory. He was horribly out of shape and was Awfully SLOW!!!

Funeka looked terrible!!! If he steps into the ring with JMM, Anthony Peterson or even steps up to 140lbs against Marcos Maidana or Bradley/Peterson winner (or loser for that matter) Funeka would get DESTROYED!!!!

Its sad he got SCREWED with the Draw...But don't get too excited...he beat an out of shape and un-motivated Guzman.

I expect an early round KO vs THE ELITES OF THE 135LBS & 140LBS DIVISION.

Funeka wasn't terrible and neither was Guzman out of shape.

Funeka's style and assets will always give a guy like Guzman trouble. He took a few rounds to get started and then performed his game.

Guzman has never seen this before.

Valero would obliterate Funeka. Guzman was actually forced into a pressure style of fighting due to Funeka's huge size advantage. Guzman was way out of his element in this fight and still he was tagging Funeka regularly. Guzman, however, lacks power and was unable to hurt the tall African. But. . .if Valero hits him with only a fraction of what Guzman hit him with, Funeka gets destroyed.

If Granpa Campbell who is a decent but not an amazing puncher was able to put Funeka on ***** street, what would Valero, who is an amazing puncher, do to him?

However, I think theres bound to be an immediate rematch with Guzman next since the title is still vacant.

I don't get it either. Guzman hasn't been relevant for years and Funeka is a Nate Campbell retread. All those threads yesterday about Funeka's style being too much for Floyd were just weird.

    I tend to agree.

But the relevance this has to the thread is as close to Lennox Lewis's commentary.

    Yes Funeka looked Horrible.

There is an expression in Boxing: "When your a Tall Fighter...FIGHT TALL"

Guzman was able to Walk in close and "fight on the inside" WITH EASE...Absolutely NO resistance!!!

Tall fighters should never allow that to happen...Guzman,the much shorter fighter SHOULD'VE EATING JABS ALL NIGHT LONG!!!

And if Funeka is just going to let JMM, Anthony Peterson walk in close...ITS OVER!!!!

I can't get too excited about Valero...His resume is not that impressive and the few times I have seen him...there was nothing that "JUMP-OUT AND SCREAMED...UNBEATABLE."

Same goes for This fight coming up (Williams/Martinez)

Martinez has 45 fights...and there is only two names on the list anyone has heard of (Cintron & Margarito)...Draw with Cintron and TKO'd by Margarito.

Yeah Guzman was able to fight on the inside...for 2 rounds till Funeka got his jab working.
Guzman was eating jabs all night. He was lucky he didn't get knocked out or get stopped.

Guzman was not out of shape man and he was fast as ****, especially in the first rounds.

The gap in speed always deminishes as the fight wears on. Its normal

Guzman simply didn't have an answer to Funeka's size and reach. I don't think it was because Guzman was unmotivatedd or undertrained. Maybe he mistrained in that he maybe he didn't get adequately tall, lanky lightweights to spar with. . .I dunno. Funeka was just all wrong for Guzman. It may sound weird but I think Guzman would have looked far better against JMM than against the Paul Williams of the LW division.

How do you know what Guzman is 'supposed' to look like at 135lbs? He didn't look that great against Ameth Diaz either. Perhaps this is the best you'll see from Guzman at this weight class at this point in his career. It's his fault.

Guzman was fast early but once he realised he couldn't hurt Funeka he had to stop throwing so many combinations hard and fast. It was taking a lot of energy and he knew he had to go rounds in this fight because nothing was making an impression on Funeka. At that point Funeka took over from the outside and beat him up, so yeah he's gonna look slow when he just got whooped.

Guzman's lack of professionalism has cost him his career. Saw it in the Diaz fight how he was getting hammered in the face a couple of times. The guy has lost the love for the game.
