Why is Floyd soo afraid to be hit?

So Paul Williams, who is about 6'3" and has an 83" reach is larger than, say, Bernard Hopkins? Just so we're clear here, because that seems to be your logic.

Likewise, he moved up again because he'd already won a title at that weight. Like I said, was RJJ a heavyweight beating up on smaller guys, yes or no? Was Floyd larger in the ring than Diego Corrales during their fight when Corrales was both taller and outweighed him by a full division? Yes or no?

 

Why get hit if you can avoid them and counter it?

 

That's true, but his defense really hinders his offense.

And because his offense sucks balls, people don't like him, and then he cries on national tv.

 

Gatti and Ward were two well matched fighters. Paulie and PBF are a class apart. I'd rather watch Floyd vs Whitaker than Gatti vs Ward, for damn sure, because the Floyd vs Whitaker fight would a boxing match and it would mean something. Gatti vs Ward (all three) were entertaining, but as spectacle, not as a display of boxing prowess.

More to the point, I would always pick watching a Floyd fight over a Gatti fight because I think he's a world class boxer with amazing talent and Gatti was just a b-level fighter with great heart. One of those is a lot rarer than the other.

Hagler vs Hearns is the only fight in that list that I'd pick over, say, Floyd vs Whitaker as a more interesting BOXING match. Corrales/Castillo is only a great fight because of a once in a blue moon turnaround. The return fight is not nearly as well remembered. Likewise DLH/Vargas is memorable because of the smack talk and drama. Hagler/Hearns i the only one on that list that involves two proven, great fighters going at it, and even that fight was more meaningful because of the other fights that lead up to it. In an era where Hagler and Hearns are the only two great fighters at that weight it's a lot less interesting.

Anyway, I love boxing, Floyd is a great boxer, and I always enjoy watching him do his thing. He's technically brilliant, a rare talent, and I think that deserves praise and attention.

Surely you can agree being his first fight at the weight fighting bigger guys than he faced in his career he walkied him down the whole night taking it to him and probably taking more shots than he needed too.

Why, because he has heart and an ego and he was trying to prove a point. Corley had said in the media he was going to rough Floyd up. Similar to the Gatti fight, Oh another display of fine offensive boxing.

Those two fights alone completely kill this thread.

Dont know why you keep bringing Roy Jones up,everyone knew that he only moved up to make history and win a belt there thats why he moved back down again after one fight,its not the same as Floyd who has neen a WW for years.

Corrales at the time of they're fight was bigger than Floyd but Corley wasnt,Floyd probably weighed more than him on fight night,he was taller,bigger reach etc

 

Mayweather's fight night weight for Castillo 1 was 138 1/2. His fight night weight for Bruseles, his fight after Corley, was 142 (Bruseles was 150).

Well it's difficult to find the right balance, he chooses not to take certain risks that may involve him getting hit, his offense is pretty good though.

Also, he took the decision to not stop Marquez, if he pushed for it he could of had him out of there. I for one am glad he didn't go for the ko.

Well like him or not, you've got to admire his talent, i just hate that he refuses to fight the very best so no one will ever question how good he is. He would beat mosley, cotto, pacman, he just needs to get in the ring with them. Hopefully he will get in the ring with 2 out of the 3 of them.

 

Okay, how bout James Toney. He's been a heavyweight for years, so he's a natural heavyweight, right?

Oh yeah, and I suppose someone like James Toney who has a great defense and still manages to let off hundreds of punches a fight actually likes to get hit? :roll: Face it, Mayweather is much like Wladimir Klitschko in that he doesn't take chances because he's deathly afraid of getting hit and losing.

ive already said why Corley wasnt bigger than fraud and the only thing i got in response is that he was bigger cause fraud was moving up in weight.

 

Not surprising that you say he probably weighed more than Corley even though you provide no facts or reasons for that. Just more bias.....

1) Everyone one is pretty much aware that Floyd doesnt really bulk after a weigh in because he usually fights around his walking around weight (even more funny when people say he was 160 against JMM) considering he was what max 149/150 against Hoya which he couldnt weight below because of the contract. So all of a sudden he can swell up to Pavlik proportions at 160.

2) Is it really likely that the guy moving up in his first fight at a new weight is going to weigh more than the seasoned campaigner who also happens to have fought at higher weights.

Actually what you said was that Floyd was bigger because he was a welterweight now, and I said that was pretty ****ing irrelevant. Floyd and Corley looked about the same size to me in the fight video. Neither were very big 140 pounders. Floyd was taller, with longer reach, but they were quite likely very close the same weight (making Floyd the leaner fighter).

And, as pointed out, if height and reach were all it took to be a big guy Paul Williams would be bigger than many heavyweights.
