Its a mixture of things He knocked out an old Reid Trashed on Calzaghe He then shortly redeemed himself with the Pascal and Taylor fights then the super duper 6 happened and then in his first and only fight in the uk hes unlucky enough to fight dirrell. I scored the fight 114-113 (with the point deduction) to froch but it was an ugly fight then the kessler fight came along, kessler being recognisable from the calzaghe fight to casual fans, and well froch lost 115-113 on my card The abraham fight which should have been held in the UK ended up in europe, killing Frochs homecoming fight and then they demanded Froch fight Johnson in the US. I think thats why he switched to Hearn, he was getting repeatedly ****ed in the ass by the showtime bosses and Mick just stood there and let it happen
There was a sub-set of fans who complained that Calzaghe wouldn't face Froch. If there had been any money in it I expect he would have. Even slightly faded as he was against Kessler and Hopkins, he had too much for Carl and I don't see why he'd have been scared of him. But more pressingly, who the **** was Carl Froch!? He wasn't a world titlist, he didn't bring much money to the table and he hadn't beaten anyone that would have forced people to take note.
There's nothing more interesting about Froch than there was with Robin Reid or Richie Woodhall. He's had an incredible amount of exposure.
Not many like Calzaghe so I doubt it'd be that. Just hasnt had the hype train behind him......when he was on terrestrial TV, Hatton was still active and had most the publics interest and Khan was still heavily hyped prospect... Nobody cared about an unheralded guy near his 30s with no fan base
This. I'm sure there'll be some revisionist Froch fans out there that claim Calzaghe ducked him but the facts are Froch was a nobody back then. If Calzaghe didn't retire it was all about Pavlik or Dawson. Froch wasn't in the picture.
mate, do yourself a favour and lean your head back against the window, poke your tounge out, and carry on licking.
Yeah nottingham fans don't like him? Thats why he sold out the Nottingham Arena for the Dirrell fight!!! Its purley down to exposure. Anyone of us would have done the Calzaghe baiting to get us a decent fight.
You can tell he got owned in the whole thing from a 1:14 preview. Wow thats perceptive. I would wait till the whole edit comes out if I were you. (My sincere apologies if it already has but I can't find it).
If any sportsperson in Britain other than in football/F1 wants to have mainstream exposure they have to be very good at what they do and have a media friendly personality. Look at some of the mainstream names from British boxing: Frank Bruno: had a great double act going with Harry Carpenter. Henry Cooper: British people identified with him and loved him. Ricky Hatton: Ricky had the cheeky chappie patter and the public lapped it up. Although Barry McGuigan is Irish he had a great rapport with the British public mainly because he was an articulate lad. With Froch it just seems he is very uptight in front of the camera. He harps on about warriors and the likes and rarely lightens up. Because of his intensity he rarely shows a human side. The BBC for example has reported all Froch's fights and he was on ITV. Froch just did not connect with the public. It's a pity because I think he is a very genuine lad and a better fighter than a lot of the more mainstream names from the past.
