Other than Cooper, every single one of those guys had a great media-savvy promoter. And McGuigan had a built-in back story because of The Troubles. What Froch made a mistake with was the sense of entitlement he portrays. No one likes a victim.
Unbeatable or nothing.... boxing fans like unbeatable and the spectrum. Even Mike Tyson was unbeatable.
If you dont like the Cobra then you are a wankbooth hovering pathetic sack of rancid putrid ****** spunk eating ****...... I remember the Cobra on BBC1 years back 2002 odd it was so dont give me that exposure shite!!!..........Should have went to Matchroom a lot earlier is the only thing Carl should have done...... Most people dont know **** about boxing, Johnny come lately ****s.
Frank W did well but Ricky still had the gift of the gab and was happy being filmed down the pub drinking Guinness and throwing darts. Hatton made a fortune out of being a down to earth lad that always seemed to say the right thing. Frank had Mickey Duff and Terry Lawless who while one shrewd cookie he couldn't have made Frank up. He was a one off and a funny man. Khan will never get the love these guys did even though he has had every promotional advantage. Khan is just a poor communicator. People talk about McGuigan and the troubles as if it was at the forefront of people's minds at the time. At the time the biggest controversy was about McGuigan talking British citizenship and that divided people. He got some Protestant support in N.Ireland but that was about it. A lot of Catholics were pissed off with him. McGuigan had Barney Eastwood promoting him. Eastwood was a clown. It was all about McGuigan's action style, his ability to talk and his old man singing. All these fighters showed a human side. Froch rarely does. He's too intense when all the casual viewer wants to see is a bit of patter.
:deal spot on. Although its not the be-all and end-all, having a 'likeable' personality in interviews can definitely go a long way.
I think far too many people are blaming Hennessey here. I think Hennessey did a very good job with Froch just sometimes the stars dont align. Froch had mainstream exposure he had a world title fight on primetime ITV he had another belter in the Taylor fight show on delay. He was also put into the S6 another great move which has gained him exposure across the pond and big paydays. All of this was masterminded by Mick whether you like it or not. The problem that Froch ran into was that he was dealing with the hangover from Calzaghe/Hatton era and there was no passing of the torch as there should have been by Calzaghe to Froch either by fight or by recognition and backing from Calzaghe because at the time they were both rivals. As a result the British public as a whole never related him to that movement. Also Forch was unlucky enough to have the subsequent problems with ITV pulling out of boxing as well as the fact that he was essentially blackballed by Sky for whatever reason. He probably fell just between the bracket of better than an average fight night but not quite PPV. He is a victim of circumstance but still true fans recognise his prowess and he has done financially quite well out of the S6 and has celebrity status in Nottingham.
