There a lot of boxing fans, across the board, who states that Spence isn't elite but GGG is. I want to know why? GGG has the edge in power, jab, chin, and maybe footwork but that's about it. Spence is the better counter-pucher, just as good at cutting off the ring and fighting on the inside, he has the better defender, and he is much more athletic. Can someone explain to me why Spence doesn't get as much credit as GGG even though he has the better resume and has been more consistent?
GGG is more highly regarded because GGG was widely viewed as the best at 160 whereas Spence is viewed as being inferior to Crawford despite being a weight bully. That said though, Spence is viewed by elite by almost everybody and makes the top ten pound for pound of the vast majority of fans' lists, and maybe even top 5 on most fans' lists.
Spence inferior to Crawford? Spence has fought the better competition and he does some things better than Crawford (inside fighting, jab, pivoting, creating angles, and defense). There is not this huge disparity between Crawford and Spence that people on this board make it seem.
Both are considered elite. Terrible thread. People are frustrated with Spence for the Crawford situation. GGG fights big time fights and was signed to fight PIROG when both were unknown.
He is elite, but he's missing a name on his resume. You elevate yourself higher by fighting your main rival, which Spence hasn't done. GGG has fought his main rival Canelo 3 times. He proved his elite skills by beating Alvarez twice and getting robbed twice. Spence has yet to fight Crawford once. If he loses to Crawford badly, nobody will think he's on GGG's level. If he wins, there will no doubts.
Huh? He's ranked #4 P4P by The Ring #3 By ESPN the last time I saw their rankings CBS had him at #2 the last time I saw theirs Very good fighter but he's done nothing to warrant such a lofty ranking Ranked above Usyk by two of them which is utterly ridiculous
Golovkin = small middleweight Spence = big ass weight bully who faked an eye injury to swerve a 42 year part time boxer and midget
Idk... I think the thread is rather baseless to be honest, if we are talking in general. I doubt many people rate today's Golovkin much higher than Spence, if at all.
Crawford has been consistently rank top 3 but his resume is worse than Spence, GGG, Canelo, Bivol, Inoue, Loma, Charlo, and even Josh Taylor. Explain that? Hell, an argument could be made that Thurman's resume is superior.
Crawford’s resume is weak, and many People will agree with that. Spence’s resume is better and many people will agree with that. People rank Crawford higher because he is more dominant in his victories. At the end of the day, the fans just want to see them fight each other. The winner will get all the glory.
Er. Crawford's ranking has always been too high too. His resume is poor but at least he's a three weight champ with P4P skills
Exactly show me where they don’t consider Spence elite when he’s literally ranked top 4-5 P4P by every major rankings system..
