Martinez is definately not ducking him, he's injured simple and plain. GGG can wait for him to recover for that fight or wait for Barker, Geale & Sturm to sort their situation out & he can fight stiffs like Stevens in the meantime OR he could move up to 168 for a showcase fight against a big name i.e. Abraham or Chavez Jr while he waits, should he beat those guys at 168 he has the option of staying put & going after Ward/Froch etc.
Not at all. I said that Ward would be the biggest fight in terms of prestige because not only is he P4P #2 but he also fights 10-15lbs heavier. A win or even a close loss would do a lot for GGGs credibility but may be the least lucrative (at least in the short term) of the 3 fights Loeffler said they'd prefer.
What do you have against Curtis Stevens? He's a big puncher, and most of us like battles between big punchers. I'm looking forward to this fight!
Kinda it^. I think team GGG are waiting in the hopes that Maravilla takes the fight -if he doesn't, the reasons will be financial, plain and simple. Maravilla is coming to the end of a great career and his focus will necessarily be on maximising income from his remaining fights. My feeling is that HBO will make it worth Maravillas while to fight GGG to give Gena the lineal shot. Barker, Geale and Sturm all seem more interested in fighting over the IBF belt or in domestic bouts, so if it becomes apparent that Martinez sees better options elsewhere, GGG needs to start looking to 168. Chavez Jr seems to be the favoured option, while he still remains a decent draw (presumably at 168 -or thereabouts:roll.
I feel bad for GGG, The guy is explosive & is exciting but... The name "Golovkin" can't sell a fight or get people to plop their asses in the seats. + time is not in his side, It makes it REAL easy for the top guys to simply not acknowledge him.
He would have a good fight with Murray.... if Murray would fight him. He would have had a good fight with Martinez.... if Martinez would have fought him instead of Murray He would have a good fight with Barker.... if Barker would fight him. You are being willfully ignorant on this topic when acting as if GGG isn't being avoided, then when its pointed out that he is being avoided, you switch it up and say then he should move up lol.
The same used to be said about Pac (regarding his name) But I agree, times short for G.... and he doesn't have the great fights around him to make him a star ala Pac (and hes probably not as dynamic) Hopefully hes one of the few that age well and have a long prime because hes already in his 30's.
Again what big name fighter is ducking him?You really think Martinez is ducking him? There are all types of reasons fights don't get made just chill on this ducking **** .
1 - easy-to-make fight. 2 - Stevens is American - it should be good for the media 3 - Sergio is off. JCCjr is over (weight). Quillin is a nobody. There are not money fights to be done at MW at this moment. 4 - should stay busy and get attention from casual fans. I think he will goodboy Stevens early, maybe in a Ishida way, so it would be great for the hype and he will get some fans. Maybe it is not the better fight but it's ok. No problem with it.
The bolded especially. There is an issue that the only two fighters (at 160) that are widely seen as competitive ( Maravilla and Kid C) can't be made. Though I still hope Maravilla for late 2014. As for Quillin, well [Best Duvall southern drawl: LC Kilgore] -'someday this war's gonna end'. To get the top fights and make his name he has to go 168. Parta the problem at MW seems to be simply that fighters who were considered solid and tough contenders 12 months ago are now being judged against an exceptional boxer and KO artist. It ain't that they've got worse overnight - MW was only a year ago (think Jr -Maravilla) considered a hot division.
GGG is fighting curtis because curtis is on a roll right now and has looked impressive. no problem with this fight. GGG should take care off curtis in exciting fashion
