His defense makes Margarito look like Floyd Mayweather, does he like getting punched in the face at will or is his defense really that bad?
I know, he's been getting hit at will lately. Does he like getting punched in the face or is there a problem with his defense?
I guess he does not care about guys who do not have the power to hurt him. Monroe, wade, brook...he just ate everything they threw and did not care much about defense.... Stevens, lemieux, rubio.... He stayed very sharp and avoided their shots.
What are you talking about? He ate punches at will from Stevens and Lemmy too. Have you even watched those fights? So you're telling me that for the last couple of fights, GGG got punched in the face at will cause he likes it? Is he a masochist?
He was not letting Lemieux tee of on him, of course Lemieux landed, most fighter get hit at some point...****, Ward got cracked by ****ing Paul Smith even.... Stevens landed a couple of shots at the end of the 4th and a big left in the 5th...You can tell GGG didn't like it.....Monroe and wade he clearly was not bothered and seemed to invite it on.
This, I don't think his defense is bad, his guard is pretty tight, and he blocks shots decently, but his head movement is just non-existent. Even in the fights where he boxes, he doesn't use much head movement.
Because he's gotten away with it for so long and he hasn't learned anything new and now it's just a bad habit that he will likely never get rid of. He also telegraphs his wide looping left hook but his opponents don't counter it because they're too busy backing up away from it because they're afraid of it. The first guy that steps into it when GGG is throwing it and they land a hard right hand or a left uppercut GGG will be on the canvas. GGG is WIDE OPEN for many counters because of how he winds up and telegraphs his punches and doesn't jab his way in usually and just tries to head hunt. His style is actually terribly predictable. Frankly, he needs a new coach.
It's the combination of length strength and defense.. the total.. but as you get older and lose the reflexes.. it's the footwork rather than the agility or even the footspeed.. you might think it's the same thing.. and you can possess both.. to the untrained eye.. It's the dribbling accuracy.. not the dribbling speed.. of the feet.. accuracy of the feet..
Ward has excellent defense and head movement though, you'll never see him get caught with the same punch twice or in combination. GGG's head movement is non existent, and it's surprising. It's a huge flaw that he needs to fix.
He takes a few to get to them and knock them out. He takes risks because they can't hurt him. If Floyd or ward fought that way they would take alot but they opt to fight safety first and stink out the place.
