Im pretty new round here but have followed boxing for years. I am staggered by the lack of respect given to Hatton predominately by American boxing fans. This man is undefeated, is regarded as the best fighter in the world at 140, has fought for a world title in his last five fights, yet, to quote Roger Mayweather is 'nothing more than a glorified club fighter'. I wonder if its just his lack of action on US TV? European and Soviet bloc fighters always seem to get no respect until they are a household name in the US. Calzaghe anyone? he was and continues to be derided, presumabley because of his lack of fights in the US. I think that underrating Hatton is a big mistake. Flolyd is favourite for a reason, i understand that, but i wonder if this lack of respect will be the Mayweather camps downfall?

A lot of US fans are jumping on the Collazo fight (like Billy Graham said if they are pinning their hopes on that fight then great).

Also, the Urango fight was ugly in the second half although Hatton boxed well in the 1st half of the fight. A lot of them haven't seen his fights against Tackie, Oliveira, Stewart and Phillips.

I can understand that, but sucj public dismisall of Hatton leaves me confused. If Flolyd wins then its nothing special, he was supposed to. If he loses then a guy he has labelled as a bum beat him up. I think this is one of the problems with Mayweathers legacy. If he wins then nobody is impressed because ,by his own mouth, these guys were worthless. There is a historical imperative with Ali of course, but i am staggered at how Hatton has been portrayed by the Mayweather army

Sadly for some,if your not from america some here dont want to know you, take a look at what is said about the heavyweight divison since amercia cant produce anyone young and hungry,to most americans its now **** and not worth bothering withm and yeah i know its not as good, but it still has had good fun fights, its just they dont involve a yank.

We euros have who for decades watch american fighters dominate most of boxing, and yet you never see us saying its crap,i loved watching some of the american superstars in the 80s and 90s,but i really think the lack of respect for non american guys now,is shocking, get over yourselfs all ready, the world and boxing has moved on,maybe you need to catch it up first.

Stand by now for a american to say "go **** yourself" and sadly prove they really need to grow up a bit,and learn to respect other countrys fighters, just like all us europeons did for a long time.

A lot of Americans are very inward looking. To be the best you've got to fight in America, which is fair to a point as it's the biggest stage but there is never any pressure for American fighters to go outside of the US in order to show there the best in the world.

To make this answer simple, without going into any proposed American Bias that is simply tossed out there anytime we don't rate a European fighter as high as the European fans (and this happens in reverse too), Hatton has fought 3 times in the US. Two of those showings were certainly not great. The third was very good, but Castillo looked shot before that fight (I thought he lost his previous fight) and bad against Hatton. So it didn't help matters.

Is he really underrated? Forget what the Mayweather camp says, he seems to get a lot of respect around here. And to pick Floyd as a favorite is no disrespect to Hatton, the more skilled fighter should be regarded as the favorite. The fight reminds me of Calzaghe - Kessler, the best possible challenge for the king of the division, who has to dig deep but in the end prevails.

Having lived in the U.S for almost 9 years, I have observed that for a lot of Americans the "world" ends at the U.S borders. Anything beyond is absolutely inferior and irrelevant. Hell, most have not even seen a world atlas in their lives.

Thus, such ignorance transforms into most of the social areas: sports, entertainemnt, politics etc. Unfortunately, some of the U.S posters on this board fall into that ignorant category that view any non-U.S fighters as totally substandard sportsmen.

True, around only 8% of Americans have passports.

I dont think that it is a lack of respect....just floyds unmatched skill and style in the ring. Never taking nothing away from hatton, its just with floyds style in totally PERFECT for Hattons style..Hes a brawler and floyd picks apart brawlers(baldomir.gattie etc). Why do you think Floyd took this fight so quick? Huge payday-good style fight.
