Why is Henry Cooper so revered?

    he is shown to be some kind of high authority in briitish boxing. everytime they ask him for an opinion on latest boxing events. all because he fought with Ali. apart from that he didnt achieve that much. bruno was more succesful and they never quote him on anything.

    He won 3 Lonsdale bets outright, he was European champion for God knows how many years and he is is also articulate and has an engaging personality.

    Its debateable whether Bruno was more succesfull than Cooper, would Bruno have got to a world title (or even got as many title shots) if there was only 1 to aim for?

    Because he tried his hardest, is a lovely fella, and of course decked and had a young ali is a world of hurt, and if it had happened earlier in the round may have even won. Also he had a decent career and had some good skills.

    Yeah it's terrible they pay his opinion more credence than people on the Internet who have never achieved anything in the sport.

    McGuigan winds me up as well in the way he calls Jermain Taylor Bernard Taylor all the time. Can't he remember the name of the man he had beat?:patsch

    I think another reason is just because of the era he fought in, it was legendary was it not, when boxing was seen as pure gold, and he was one of few british heavys who was better then average, my old man saw the 2nd ali fight, and said it was one hell of a great event, and he was huge back then

    For starters, Cooper was british champ for 12yrs whilst Bruno never even entertained the notion of fighting for one

    Cooper is a great man, a lovely guy and was a top class heavyweight when heavyweights were worth talking about.

    Bruno shits all over Cooper as a fighter. Only nostalgia can stop anybody coming to this conclusion.

    Nah, too small. Cooper was basically a cruiserweight before they existed.

    Massive puncher, but very easily cut.
