Why is Hopkins liked so much and Ruiz hated?

wow - This is a comparison I didn't expect. I can't argue against it. I think Ruiz gets less respect due to the Tua fight. It's hard for me to view him as a champion after that.

Draw wise - they are about the same, people(casual fans) don't like watching them all that much

Floyd Is leagues above anything Hopkins was and done. No purist style at all last Saturday, Toney's more a purist than Hopkins.

Hopkins holding last Saturday was comparable to some of Ruiz's WBA fights.

Hopkins is respected because of his achievments (record 160 title defences and wins at 175) not his style, if it were his style he wouldnt have had to waited to beat tito trinidad to make his money.

And he isnt sweet purist like PBf, that simply isnt true, he is a crafty counter puncher, but doesnt have the sweet eye catching style of Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather has much more class than Bernard Hopkins.

    :rofl :rofl
:thumbsup Hopkins bores the living **** out of me. I'm convinced anyone who continues to throw punches at him consistently over twelve rounds can beat himthese days, just on Hopkins pure lack of punch volume.

Hopkins was a monster in his prime, throwing power shots constantly and being a tactical aggressor. Anyone who says hes always had a low punch output obviously has never seen any of his fights during his prime. Any old man has to lower his punch output with age or he simply will fall over from exhaustion or tear something. Holyfield had to do it, Foreman, Holmes, and Hearns.

I really dont like the comparison to be honest. Hopkins in his prime was ten times better than Ruiz. I will say this though, and Im only talking about the current version Hopkins, I'm not sure I have ever seen a guy get so much credit for doing so little in a fight. I think if it was pretty much anybody else with that performance on Saturday night, they would've been ripped on a lot, especially if it was a european. But since it was Bernard, we get to read all this crap about what a great, clever, masterful fight he fought.

His punch output was not dramatically less actually. I read a stat that during his reign at MW he avaraged 35 punches a round. I disagree with it being so dramatic but he never threw a lot of shots.

Thank you kind sir, for bringing some sanity back to this thread. Jesus, I think some of you would try sailing over the horizon to prove the world is flat...
