The way Ruiz got cold cocked by Tua. Then he lost his title to a middleweight. He also looked hurt by some of RJJ punches in that fight. Hopkins is a much better fighter P4P than Ruiz.
Not sure what you're getting at, pretty much thought it was common knowledge that Hopkins is hated by most fans. He's respected as a legit and talented guy, but still hated. Always has been. It's his persona. Think about it, he's American and dominated arguably the 2nd most heralded division in boxing (Middleweight) for a decade, and nobody in the States gave a ****. To imply that he was ever liked or loved is dishonest.
I didn't agree with Hopkins complaining about low blows against Calzaghe but comparing him or mentioning him in the same breath as John Ruiz is a major insult. Ruiz is the sadest and poorest excuse for a heavyweight boxer. In all the years that I've watched this sport, I've never seen a fighter behave in the ring like Ruiz. This is a guy that would sooner be saved by the ref to win a fight rather than fighting it out himself. Ruiz has nothing in his arsenal but dirty tactics and excuses. Is it just me or has anyone else seen John Ruiz rise up on his toes in order to make a body shot look like a low blow? The fight with Kirk Johnson was a big time laugher and his trilogy with Holyfield is one of the worst in the sport. Bernard Hopkins may be a dirty fighter and he does hold to some degree, but at least Hopkins is a tactical boxer that uses a jab and straight right hand. His fights might be boring to those who want to see him exemplify his "executioner" nickname with destructive knockouts. I know that I'm exaggerating a bit, but If I had the power to ban John Ruiz from boxing, consider me first in line to be the adjudicator.
Hopefully when Mr. Ruiz wins the heavyweight title for a third time and secures his rightfull place in the Hall of Fame he will get the respect he truely deserves.
what you're trying to say is both styles arent crowd friendly but hopkins was the man anyway...i dont know why you're comparing a legitmiate champ against a caveman
