Why is it Bowe did better against Prime Holyfield than Lennox did vs Past it Evander

Lewis wouldn't be regarded as highly as he actually is had Bowe beaten him though. "Prime Lewis" wouldn't have as nice a ring to it.

If Lewis had beaten Bowe - Bowe would then conveniently be regarded as damaged goods from the Holyfield fight.

Lewis's victory would be downgraded whilst Holyfields would still be regarded as a massive win

Why is it Lewis did so much better against Golota than did Bowe?

On thing we know about Holyfield, is that he was not the most consistent fighter, even in his prime. If you look at the Cooper, Moorer, Czyz Ruiz fights, you get some very uneven performances. On the other hand, he arrives very inspired at times. My point being, he does not offer a great standard by which to compare his opponents to one another.

Early nineties, I'd have pegged Bowe to win. It wouldn't be until 95-97 that the tide would turn into a more even matchup, and then favoring Lewis.

Golota is a barometer of nothing. It could be said Bowe made Golota the mental midget he was.

Just very different kinds of fighter and if you see Lewis-Holyfield as 2-0 then you could argue that Lewis did better.

As it is, I am not convinced that 2-1 is better than 1-0-1.

That's debatable. I think the main difference between them was that Lewis had better ring generalship, outside skills and defense. So the way I see it, Lewis had more variety to his boxing skills than Bowe had and he could win differently depending on the opponent.

Bowe hardly dominated Holyfield and on almost everyone's scorecard Lewis beat him 2/2 times.

I don't know if being ranked higher then Holyfield and Lewis all time was a big concern for Bowe. I think he would have stayed in better shape if that were the case. I thought he offered Lewis to fight him at something similure to what he fought Holyfield for in the first fight. And I thought Lewis turned down a shot at Bowe.

Well that's not what happened. What happened was the WBC had essentially a round robin whereby the winner of the Bowe-Holyfield fight agreed to fight the winner of the Lewis - Ruddock fight.

    see Wikipedia comments below

    ===================================================

In November 1992 he fought reigning champ Holyfield for the undisputed title. With his heart and dedication still in question, Bowe won a unanimous decision in an entertaining fight, even flooring Holyfield in the 11th. However, it was the 10th round that most boxing fans will remember. The epic and brutal back and forth exchanges helped make it Ring Magazine's "Round of the Year". Commentator Al Bernstein exclaimed, "That was one of the best heavyweight rounds ever!"

Only a couple of weeks earlier in London, Bowe's old Olympic rival Lennox Lewis knocked out Canadian Donovan "Razor" Ruddock in 2 rounds, establishing himself as the WBC's #1 contender.

The Bowe/Holyfield and Lewis/Ruddock fights were part of a mini-tournament where all 4 fighters agreed that the two winners would meet each other for the championship. Bowe's manager Rock Newman made a proposal that the $32million purse HBO were offering be split 90-10 in Bowe's favor, an "absurd" offer which Lewis rejected.

Lewis's manager Frank Maloney rejected another offer of $2million for Lewis to fight on a Bowe undercard, citing his distrust of the Bowe camp after the aforementioned negotiations.

So in a move that would hurt Bowe's image he held a press conference in which he dumped the WBC belt in a bin rather than fight Lewis.

The famous trash can incident did little to denigrate Lennox Lewis or the WBC as he had hoped it would.

Lewis still had the chance to fight Bowe and if he won could have made a lot of money. To get 3 million at the chance to become champion does not sound like that bad of deal to me. Bowe fought three tougher fights then Lewis ever fought, And he went into the ring more physically declined then Lewis ever did, I don't think Bowe was afraid to fight Lewis. If Lewis thought he could beat Bowe why did he not just take the deal and become champion.
