Because they're trying to get Joe well acquainted with the American audience even though he claims he's on his way out. To be honest, nobody in America cares about Joe regardless of how many times he fights here. He slaps. In America that's what women do. We'd much rather watch boxers who punch. Good luck, Joe, and hopefully good riddance.

they will still make more money in the states even with 30000 people less on the gate revenue

HBO negotiated with Jones and Calzaghe to have the fight in New York in exchange for a 24/7 series.

the fight will generate more revenue altogether over there through sponsorship, tv deals, bigger audience suitable time zone
an extra 30000 seats on the gate would result in roughly an extra million pounds, however the seat prices in msg or vegas are on average higher than the ones over here so they regain revenue there
they can easily make the rest of that money up in the states with ppv sales through good promotion etc etc as i said before

LOL, PPV sales for this fight. Guaranteed poor. The seat prices in MSG don't mean a goshdarn thing if they're not purchased (which they aren't). This ain't Kelly Pavlik, this is Joe Calzaghe. A largely unheralded and lowly regarded foreign fighter from Wales (from the American standpoint) vs. aging, damaged domestic goods. For the general public that's a thanks but, no, thanks. Maybe if they would have billed this as each of them's last hurrah then maybe they could achieve the kinda numbers you're talkin' about.
