but so hard for others? On one hand, take Darchinyan, who has had several huge fights consecutively and is after more. He's somehow able to get top fighters and/or other titleholders to fight him, and for whatever reason there's never a lengthy negotiation process and not many things seem to stand in the way. Same thing with Marquez, and a few other fighters.... By total contrast, look at Bika, Pavlik, Abraham and others. All of whom claim to be ambitious, but for their some reason their promoters can't/won't get any big fights made. Why is this?
Its a case by case basis. Some guys have promoters, managers, fans or organizations behind them. Some fights CAN be made when one guy is washed up, like Taylor agreeing to face Carl Froch-- he had NO choice and was out of options! If a guy has a bit of a name, like a former champ or a reality show star, he also can be put in line for multiple title shots. Sure, they're easy defences-- that's what they're SUPPOSED to be. I understand what you're asking, but the truth about JMM is he could get a lot of fights, but not Pac-man when he wanted to face him. Same goes for Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather II which never happened. Everything DLH touches turns to gold, right? So why did PBF and Hatton turn him down? With a reasonable fan base and the right mindset of a manager, a lot is possible.
The top fighters who are marketed well get the bigger fights because there is more money in the fights. Nowadays with the low marketability, many fights cannot be made for what the fighters want and think they deserve.
