Are their chins, much like their skills, just of a lower standard than their predecessors? Or is that despite their limited skill, heavyweights actually hit harder now than in the past?
Just a theory but is the fact that the HW has more big guys than ever before make it harder for people to take a clean punch due to the extra weight behind those punches?
Maybe, in the olden days, people weren't so suprised that when someone got smacked by a heavyweight punch, they might go down.
Bullspit. Who are all these big guys who are KO'ing everyone in sight? Valuev, cant punch. McCline, cant really punch (though better than Valuev) Wlad (238lbs is not massive in ANY era) Sam Peter, can punch. Obese. There's a misconception that this is the era of the giants. There WAS a period post- war when marciano was champ that full blooded heavyweights were a rarity. But there had always been big guys before and after that. If there is a tendency for todays heavyweights to be somewhat bigger its in lieu of the otherwise lack of talent; a big talentless guy will beat a small talentless guy.
I dont think the Heavyweights of now have weak chins as whole, aside from Wlad, everyone in the top 10 has a pretty solid chin. I will however agree that the skill level of Heavyweights decreased, as there weight and overall size increased.
Because you got a guy stand in front of you just as big, if not bigger, putting everything into a power punch, from a short distance. I think its hard to take punches from guys 225 lbs plus ...
