    Why is this?

    Everyone is Saying...

"paul williams is exposed.... he got beat up by martinez"

to me this is discrediting martinez.... he is clearly the #2 (aside from pw in the eyes of some... maybe #1) @ 154 and he gave paul williams a tough time....

give martinez his credit for being good... the dude is not a slouch

Williams probably not exposed as a good fighter, but I
do think that he was exposed in terms of being up there
    with Floyd, Pac and Mosely.

If you put Williams up there with Floyd and Pac, then youd
have to put Martinez up there - and realistically, he isnt up
there with those 2, so therefore either is Williams.

So, I do think to a certain extent, Williams was exposed,
but not as a good fighter, exposed as a top 5 fighter P4P

He was awesome last night.....I had Williams winning 115-113, but it easily could've been a draw or the other way....it was that close. Martinez just seems to be the victim of some shoddy judging(119-110???.) and reffing(cintron). He made alot of fans last nite and I look forward to s rematch vs Williams or any other fights he laces em up for.

i dont see how it hurts his p4p location?

if you beat (arguably) the #1 guy in a division... how do you lose your spot? shane mosley struggled with mayorga but i didnt see anybody bitching about his p4p placement... he was still top 5 after that fight....

everyone is jsut saying he doesnt deserve it because he didnt obliterate martinez

Both of these guys are A-level fighters. But IMO, there is level above that only a handful of fighters reach (Pac, Floyd, Hops, Mosley, DLH, Lewis, Holyfield, RJJ, Toney to name a recent few), and neither of these guys are on that level.

I really really like Williams, his fights are very exciting and he will literally fight anyone, so how you can not love him for that is beyond me. But I was getting a little annoyed at how highly he was being ranked both P4P and @147 without really proving it. For me he's borderline top 10 P4P and any disdain for him is probably because of the praise he recieves from his fans.

As with most fighters, the hate generally comes from never being critical and delusions of granduer from their fans (Floyd, Pac, RJJ, Calzaghe), rather than the fighter themsleves.

You've been a main player in this with Williams Walk With Me, and thus you have to accept some face rubbing afterwards.

Williams is the one being discredited. Overwhelmingly. He did the right thing last night jumping right on top of Martinez. Saved him the fight. Even though he still really shouldn't have been given the win, IMCV. Paul did good in certain ways.

I don't think so, WWM. Williams looked really pedestrian. As a fighter. See, I never had nothing against him.

What has happened here is that PW had a ton of hype, people were putting him way up on their pound for pound lists and making polls about him against the top guys at 168 and even Chad Dawson. Martinez on the other hand had no hype, and most believe that he won. So it kind of seems like the Paul Williams bubble has burst because a guy without a lot of elite experience just beat him in most people's eyes. It's no discredit to Martinez it just shows us why we shouldn't be jumping on the bandwagon sometimes.

I don't discredit Sergio at all, he proved he is the best 154 lb fighter in the world last night. And over the 154 lb limit against great odds on somewhat short notice, no less.

    its not that...

    the whole thing is inconsistent
    - pw is anywhere from p4p #3-7
+ so people think he should be a world beater no matter who he goes against... specifically because he fluctuates weight
    - he fights a VERY GAME sergio martinez
+ he wins a VERY VERY tight fight... and people try to discredit both of them bceause of the reason above.... instead of just saying both of them are great fighters

    you get what im saying?

i still think he would give mosley a run for his money & same with floyd... mosley fights to north & south & floyd doesnt have enough punch output to escape pw...

people just compare the legacies instead of just thinking about the matchups and ****....

pw did a lot of dumb ass **** though.... im glad he won this fight becuase he is going to learn a lot from it... in particular how to take his time instead of rushing the **** in

Hes an OK figher nothing special.

Hes fought about 50 fights and has never beaten a top name.

Most of his fights are against total bums.
Thats why people are discrediting him.

Martinez didn't look good aside from his showy powershots - but Quintana was doing the same bit, only better and more often. Martinez was a sucker for the left cross, genuinely could not get his hands above his shoulders, clammed up, and flagged heavily under the physical and mental strain.

Williams just looked like a slightly quicker more determined version of the unimproved oaf in Quintana I. Again. No improvements.

Paul Williams is the greatest fighter of all time, pound-for-pound. LOL. Not really.
