Why is it that pure skill seems to matter less in MMA than boxing?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in MMA you need BJJ (or some other ground game), athleticism, and some rudimentary boxing skills and you can compete. Take the upcoming Lesnar-Carwin fight for example. Lesnar surpasses Carwin in almost every objective metric -- athleticism, strength, size, wrestling resume, etc. etc. But since Carwin is big, athletic, and can punch, so we're pretty intereested....

Because pure skill would really matter if MMA where restricted to 1 thing like boxing is. However theres very aspects you have to worry about I think the only time where true great skill matters in a techniqual ground battle and thats as long as guys arent using alot of GNP like example a Sakuraba vs Carlos Newton style match. Boxing depends on alot of skill thats why its called the sweet science.

Maybe its just me but does anyone but me think Lesnar and Carwin will simply not happen?

Could we see Nogueira as a late replacement?

To put it simple because in MMA there is so many variables that can happen. A strong wrestler can take you down, a great bjj guy can submit you anytime, a great boxer/kickboxer can ko you anytime etc, etc. Boxing is just that ,boxing.

Exactly and thats where the real skill difference comes into play when a fight is broken down into one fighting aspect. You see it occassionally when 2 wrestlers struggle to take each other down in MMA or when 2 great BJJ guys have a classic grappling match but without the influx of GNP like I mentioned before Sakuraba vs Newton. But like you mentioned most of the time all the different variables come into play.

Nah I know its lined up but I just think it's gonna be mulligan'd. It does not advertise I guess. If they wanna advertise for Brock, and they get extra figures for him, aim higher, he gets figures that aren't exactly special but he'll raise a little more than tonights if you give him more opposition, not so much a challenging fight but an advertising fight.

BAH GAWD, ITS JAWN CENA ENTERING THE OCTAGON!

MMA is not a skill. It's a skill set.
