Why is it

    That back in the day. certain black fighters such as henry Armstrong and Sugar Ray were given title shots while other very good ones such as Charley Burley and Lloyd Marshall were not?

    Ownership.

    it's always been that way, there have been dozens & dozens of Burley's & Marshalls throughout boxing history!

    Because some lost big fights at the wrong time, and they missed their chance. it' hard to get a belt or a shot when you lose and your value drops.

    It's easy to look at a resume, and see great names and think wow this guy should have had a shot, it's easy to over look the losses even the ones to great fighters because we tend to find ourselves so impressed with great wins. But, the timing of those losses is what killed their chances at a strap.

    It usually turned on who was managing them, and how connected they were.
