there is already a lack o interest, boxing is at best a fringe sport over here, hurling, gaelic football,soccer and rugby dominant, boxing is very far down the list and is barely practiced in most of the country. Id say hurling and gaelic football take away most of our top athletes, the toughness and skill level for hurling are insane

amateur boxing now has no headgear and 10 point must system and bout can last up to 12 rounds so what you just said makes no sense what so ever, am's translate very well to pros these days

im just pointing out that rugby union turning professional in the mid 90's and its huge surge in popularity is a better excuse than the American nba and nfl argument, but even then no one uses it because its idiotic

 

Will never catch up, NBA athletes are just something else entirely to the European BBallers as much as it pains me to say it. I'm actually originally from a country where basketball is THE sport, and most of the time Americans end up beating us without much problem. But we did beat you guys in 2004, probably the greatest memory of my life

 

It's not idiotic if a huge percentage of your best athletes are doing other things besides ever thinking about becoming a boxer. Our best athletes don't really ever consider boxing anymore and that's the truth. NFL and NBA are king in this country and it wasn't always like that. Boxing, horse racing and Baseball at one time ruled.

 

European big men are much more skilled than American big men who lack fundamentals and rely on pure athletic ability. Most American Centers and Power Forwards lack a post up game with European Big men you can really see a much more advanced post up game and they don't just rely on athletic ability and often times more skilled. For instance with my Rockets Donatas Motiejunas is much more skilled than Dwight Howard in the post. he has many low post moves and a nice hook shot. Howard is just an athlete with no post moves to speak of.

I hope he can come back healthy he made great strides this year in his game and can be a force for us if he stays healthy. He also has really improved his 3 point shooting he's a hard worker and can be a really good player with time.

 

I was in a local pub on Saturday night in Galway years ago.....hurling is definitely a well known and well attended Irish sport. Especially in alleyways.
