People say Calzaghe fought nobodies all his career and then in the next breath praise Hopkins who fought nobodies for most of his career! Whats good for one is good for the other right..... He's hated cause he's a winner simple as that. He dry humped Hopkins which was probably the best thing that happened in the fight! He gave the next best thing in Lacey the hiding of his life! He beat the next best SM at the time in Kessler to unify the titles! He ****ed up an old RJJ! :deal
no doubt calzaghe is a bit of a dick when talked to. but you have to respect his boxing ability, longest reigning champ and him being undefeated. he is clearly the best fighter from mw to lhw and it gets up some peoples noses that he aint from there country. if he had been american he would be classed as the best fighter all round.
He spent so long defending his least-regarded world belt that he developed an enormous chip on his shoulder about not getting the praise he thought he was entitled to. He's stepped it up finally in the last two years, but the chip is still there so it really takes very little to make him spit the dummy and whinge again. That's basically why I've never warmed to Joe, even if I can recognise his abilities in the ring. He's responsible for his problems in the first place yet wants to blame everyone and everything else instead.
Calzagh'es great. He's entertaining to watch. People probably hate him bc #1 he's britsh, #2 he;s undefeated #3 he beat the **** out of Roy Jones #4 he (very awkwardly) beat Hopkins. he's a flawed fighter but very entertaining. I dunno how any real boxing fan could hate him.
He became even more disliked by the detractors after Hopkins schooled Pavlik. Even Hopkins fans/Calzaghe haters probably wish that fight was less one sided so they could discredit Calz win over Hopkins. Instead, that display by Hopkins further illuminates that Calz. is the real deal.
His fans. By which I mean the ******ed gobshite minority who give the rest of us a bad name. He comes out with a lot of **** at times, but I don't see him as being any worse or better than the majority of fighters in that respect - boxing's hardly a sport for nice guys, although there are a few exceptions.
