    1. Terrible finisher

    2. Too frugal with punch output, limiting his chances of success.

    3. Became a trialhorse the last several years of his career.

    4. Had only one career-defining fight, the KO of Lockridge.

    5. You don't get points for losing big fights, which is something he made a career of.

He did have a ridiculous chin though.

A couple fights I felt he won, Chavez I, Nelson, and probably Pedroza should have been DQ’d against him. Give him those wins and he’s a lock which goes to show how thin that line can be.

I think his best performance in an official win is the Ruben Castillo one. Of course the Lockridge one really stands out due to the KO, but also the Castillo one flies under the radar. He kicked the crap out of him after a strong start from Ruben.

He had a few good wins and hung in there to go the distance with some top fighters but I just don’t think he’s HOF material.

    Too many lethargic performances.

Losses to greats Pedroza, Chavez, Sanchez and Nelson were competitive, for the most part. The Lockridge one punch KO was immpressive.

But had a few really bad performances where he was simply outhustled by lesser fighters.

You have to be a helluva puncher to make Azumah Nelson fight on the back foot

They should do special exhibits every year honoring categories like best punchers, best jabs, etc. He could headline a best chins exhibit.

Would be a fun way to recognize some not HoF-level guys who were special in their own ways.

He lacked a little something. Was it killer instinct? Aggression and fire......determination? He was just missing the x factor somewhere.

And if were being brutally honest…that’s what they should have done with Julian Jackson

Ya I love Juan, but a believe he was just a notch short. However I would be pretty delighted if he made it.

Because Juan Laporte is more known for his losses than actual wins.

And @ChrisJS whilst I respect your knowledge I think your flattering Laporte a bit too much by suggesting he beat Chavez, Nelson. They were certainly competitive fights but I thought Chavez, Nelson, were clear winners. And whilst Pedroza may of been a tad lucky not to get DQed and struggled early on, Pedroza still came on in the 2nd half and beat Laporte handily in my view.
