Its mostly the Calzaghe fans, they didnt like the fact that Pavlik had their champion terrified of him and everybody back then was saying JC is running from Pavlik (which was true)

They really didnt like hearing that,so as soon as Pavlik got beat By Hopkins, they were quick to say "Pavlik was nothing all along" "Pavlik was exposed" "Pavlik is a 1 dimensional bum" "Pavlik would have no chance against JC"

And what gets to me is When Pavlik loses to Hopkins..they say "He was exposed" "Hes a bunch of hype"

But when Kessler loses to Ward they say "Ward cheated with headbutts" "That wasnt the Kessler in there that fought Calzaghe" "Kessler wasnt active enough leading up to the fight"

Of course they going to defend Kessler, because thats Calzaghes only legit win...Well..."was" thanks to Andre Ward..it isnt anymore

Everybody likes to come at Pavlik for Losing to Hopkins and criticize him..But yet people still want to Praise Kessler after he lost to Ward

The difference is Kessler was dominated by a Green,Unknown Fighter in Andre Ward (Now thats something to criticize) But Pavlik was dominated by a "LEGEND" Bernard Hopkins ..Now theres no shame in that....

I agree with the apathy thing, but that'll change (in positive ways) in 2010. Arum and Loew have made for a lot of eye-rolling, but I haven't seen any real hatred for Pavlik or insanity from his fans. Even after the loss to Hopkins, the reaction was pretty muted. The most he gets is being dismissed as one-dimensional, but he's never had a need to do anything else. He's young and smart enough to train for more complex things when/if needed.

    He is what he is:
An exciting jab-jab-right puncher with a good background story, nice-ish personality, heart and great marketability. If his hand and eyes hold up, he'll build a solid prime career and be remembered fondly for a long, long time.

Too true. Too many, myself included, were made to believe Pavlik would be the anti-Taylor. By that, I mean that Pavlik wouldn't suddenly turn into a bore as a champion the way Bad Intentions did. Everyone was given this vibe he would bring the pain every time against quality opponents. People didn't care about his first defense against Lockett because it was a mandatory (something Taylor had a problem with, opting for light middleweights with name recognition time and again until his fight with Kelly). Then came the Hopkins mess. No one wanted to see this fight and assumed Pavlik had nothing to gain and everything to lose (even if he won, as the majority thought then). He embarrassed himself by letting Dunkin and Arum set this mess up and gave B-Hop's career new life in the process. Since then, two more "mandatories" that were clear mismatches. To many, this seems like history repeating. Though Kelly isn't squeaking decisions against guys he should KO, he is looking as every bit as underwhelming as Taylor did while champ. That's why is the apathy is there.

The Klitschko's, Mayweather's and Calzaghe's fans are 20 times worse.

His idiotic fans and his little rant after the Hopkins beatdown made me go from slight dislike to really losing all respect. I don't know but something about him and his fans make it extremely hard for me to root for the guy. I'll admit, alot of it have to do with me being a Taylor fan. I just remember how disrespectful guys like Jetski other Pavlik nuthuggers were before their bout and it really left a sour taste in my mouth

    So glad Hopkins humbled him.

The only reason people now confidently say Calzaghe would have beaten Pavlik, is coz BHop exposed him.

Before BHop beat Pavlik, people were not sure Calzaghe would last in the ring with Kelly Pavlik, seeing that Calzaghe has been Knockdown a few times in his career, and Kelly Pavlik had KO 30 out of his 34 wins.

Well for me, I was on the Pavlik band wagon after the Miranda fight and a staunch supporter of him, but after the JT win, he was getting hyped up the ass, it was unbelievable. He was already being put into the same category as Robinson, Hagler and Monzon from some of his fans, and everyday we have to listen as to how everything about him is underated, his defense, his footwork, his chin, his ability to adjust when the Hopkins fight exposed all those attributes of his to be extremely overrated. I was supporting Pavlik that night, apart of me wanted Hopkins to get robbed because the magnitude of a Calzaghe/Pavlik fight would of been huge but it wasnt meant to be. Also to mention that he never fought Abraham, when the pressure was there for the winner of Taylor/Pavlik to fight him, but instead fought opposition at middleweight against the likes of Lockett and Rubio and now recently Espino. I dont even need to talk about the Williams situation, but Ill say this....when the fight was signed I was very sure the fight wouldnt go on because team Pavlik would get out of it somehow and sure enough he did.

There are some sensible theories on this thread, but none that really explain the rabid Pavlik hate that has been a part of ESB for the last few years.

Pavlik and Zuniga came up through the ranks together. When they fought both were known us tough KO artists. KP stopped Zuniga on cuts. Pavlik went on to win the middlweight title. Z man moved up and stopped undefeated Oganov to capture the IBO title at 168. To this day Zuniga's only losses came at world title level, but on ESB he is just some horrid journeyman.

Pavlik had surgery on his righthand after the Zuniga fight, and it was 9 months before he fough McKart. That was his first NABF title defense. Instead of picking a soft touch he went in against a double tough and cagey southpaw. KP handed McKart his ass in 6 rounds, and became the first who ever stopped McKart. Bronco McKart went on to capture the NABF title after KP vacated, and he held Marquez to a draw only months before Marquez fought Abraham. On ESB, Bronco McKart, the former world titlist who fought Winky Wright 3 times, is just some old scrub nobody ever heard of.

Zertuche, like Zuniga, came up through the ranks right along side KP. Their fight was supposed to be a WBC title eliminator. Pavlik did not go looking for Zertuche. The WBC assigned a title eliminator. Jose' had never been off his feet in a fight. Pavlik destroyed the double tough former oympian, and ruined his career. On ESB fighting Zertuche in a title eliminator has always been a reason to criticize Pavlik.

Miranda was considered a monster in the court of public opinion. Hopkins, who has never admitted he lost two fights to Jermain Taylor, publicly stated he was ready to pass the middleweight legacy to Miranda. Pavlik damn near beat the black off the hard hitting Columbian KO artist. Edison Miranda gave Abraham the toughest fight of his career, and his only losses came against the current linear champ at 160, the current WBA titlist at 168, and the current points leader in the showtime tourney. On ESB Miranda is just some bum club fighter.

Jermain Taylor is the man who dethroned an all time great middleweight. Pavlik took Taylor's zero, took his titles, and left him slumped in a corner, and then beat JT in the rematch. On ESB, Taylor was never more than an HBO hype job.

Anyone else see a pattern here?
