Why Is Khan Getting Slated So Much For Staying Active?

This fight would be heavily targeted towards the casual boxing fan - those who won't be too aware of that gap between the two. The only thing they're going to be thinking about is "wow, Amir is taking on the guy who destroyed him". That in itself is enough to build something up, regardless how later on it takes place.

The July date is only convienient for us lot who know what's a good fight and what isn't (as well as his haters). But like I said, the promoters wouldn't really be maximizing their returns. The fans aren't even demanding Khan to get back in the ring so soon. So him eyeing a July date is a treat in itself, and one that allows him to get away with not choosing a Prescott.

These two posts alone show how little you pay attention. They did make an attempt for Katsidis, but unfortunately it's not known exactly why this failed to go ahead. And he wasn't dropped by Sky, he simply came to the end of his 5 fight contract.

Khan is a big draw in the UK, possibly the most recognized fighter on these shores now that Hatton will be hanging them up soon.

So he came to the end of a 5 year contract and they chose not to renew it? So he was dropped.... if he is such a big draw why isn't he being shown on sky?

And the former point has been contradicted by the Katsidis camp.

Furthermore, I am in the UK (too? I don't know if you are), and not only is there a lot of people who don't like khan, but people are getting bored watching him fight dull snoozefests. However, there is still a lot of support for him, just not enough to get him on Sky.

Agreed. I'd rather have him being active taking out decent fighters than him fighting once a year against a top guy. The dude is young right? He's got time to fight the best.

I like Kahn as my previous posts show but this fight against Casamayor is absolutely ****. I get all the talk about trying to keep active but that does not justify fighting an absolute over the hill fighter. This is a meaning less fight which does not add anything to Kahn's resume. From Kahn's perspective its good as he gets paid for an easy fight but GBP have really dropped the ball on this one. Given the limited choices available they should have really increased the purse being offered to Katsidis or gotten Prescott.

    Disappointed.

Haye is a far bigger draw I think, his support over the past few fights has really taken off mostly because of a lot of good promotional work by him.

Sky didn't drop him but they wouldn't pay him the money he was looking for either, possibly because they didn't think his fight would sell that well considering the time difference.

Which of his fights was a snoozefest? The only one I've heard people call boring was the Kotelnik one, although I found it alright.

Amir Khan is a draw...he's probably the most recognised boxer in the UK right now.

His last fight at 2am drew 400,000 viewers...with practically zero promotion. Compare that with the likes of Mitchell, Froch etc who are PPV on sky right now. Say what you like about him as a boxer/person, but you can't deny his popularity.

The malignaggi fight wasn't exactly a war, and a fight with casamayor im sure will be more of the same. i dont doubt he is probably the most recognisable boxer coming out of the UK right now but he isnt going to get on sky the way he is going. now put him in with someone like katsidis and it could well be worthy of goin on sky, people arent stupid. 400k isnt enough for a ppv, is it? we gotta admit it but there are no marquee fighters coming out of the UK right now, the likes of hatton and calzaghe havent been replaced with the same level of quality.

casamyor is a good fight for khan, casamayor is one person who can get under the skin of khan, malignaggi couldn't because he can't scare any one but casamayor knows what he's doing. khan will learn alot about dealing with the mental pressure with this guy because i have no doubts that joel will look to let his hands go in the build up.

in the ring casamayor is seasoned enough to get khan for any mistakes he makes, khan will learn more about keeping his hands up and not leaving himself open when he jumps in.

they can build this fight up really well, they can show that casamayor has beaten the likes of katsidis and diego 'chico' corrakes. he is a four time world champion in two different weight classes, and if he does beat khan then will he become the first cuban ever to be a champion in 3 different weight classes? there is alot there to sell a fight. big chance of this being a sky PPV with sky also showing marquez vs diaz as part of the PPV bill.

you may have a point, but you have to take in to account casamayor jumping up to light welter and khan being big at the weight, i just can't see how casamayor will win this.

i can't see casamoyor winning either, but i think they will be able to sell it well, which is why it is being made. casamayor has been in alot of wars so that will affect him, but in his fight against marquez he was ahead on the scorecards before the knock out which shows he isn't comepletely shot, i think it will be a comfortable victory for khan but he will learn alot from fighting an experienced fighter like casamayor.

Khan's been a huge star and a house hold name since Athens 2004. If that's not superstardom, then I don't know what is. Whereas Haye has only surfaced recently (since Valuev) for his ability to talk a fight, and make noise. At most, Haye has become equal to Khan.

So if Khan's not UK's biggest draw in boxing, I'd like to know who is (other than Haye).

Hatton hasn't fought in over a year now, and has made very little intention of coming back. He's practically retired, and passed his torch on to Haye and Khan has UK's most popular fighters
