I used to like him, then disliked him a lot and now I'm coming around a little. I don't blame him for the too-long string of small nobody's he fought - that was Warrens doing. I don't blame him for the cocky attitude - anyone who seriously wants to become workd champion has to have a bit of attitude to believe that they are better than everyone else on the planet, which is the theory behind having a world champion (ok it's not as simple as that but you know what I mean). No one becomes a champ by thinking they are nothing special. My biggest problem was that when he had the chance he put his ambitions second to his comforts. For the last few fights befroe Prescott, Khan was saying he wanted a title shot in less than a year while Warren was talking about 3 or 4 more fights then a situation review. Then their contract expired, at which point Khan was an undefeated pro, olympic silver medalist and free agent and would have been welcomed by any manager/promoter on the planet. What did he do? Resigned with the man who was stating publicy that he had a different vision of Khans future than Khan had. When other fighter like Hatton & Hamed didn't like Warrens safety first, low rewards matchmaking they left him. Khan stayed at home. When he picked a new trainer he had the choice of Roach, Mayweather etc... and he picked some Cuban amatuer trainer because he was the only one who would come to the uk to live. Instead of getting his a$$ to a busy gym with a top trainer, quality training partners and a progressive manager he stayed at home with an amatuer trainer, a gym with no one else of note and a manager who has publicy disagreed with Khans vision for his career and played down his future progress. And then had the nerve to sign a big money sky deal, knowing this would mean PPV despite not having achieved anything and fighting mostly unknowns and has-beens. I don;t blame him for taking the money - who wouldn't? But it's still ripping the fans off. In short, he took the easy, comfortable option so he could keep his celebrity lifestyle. However..the KO loss seems to have woken him up a bit and he's done the right things since then (apart from turning up at Roach's gym on the first day in a chauffuered limo if the story is true) and he just about gets away with ppv this time as it's Barrera. I'm not a fan right now but he's earned a second chance.
It seems the penny has dropped for Khan and he has finally realised he was coming across as Vain and Conceited and Egotistcal. Seeing Khan speak in the build up to this fight he seems like a more modest mature and realistic person. You have to remeber he was very young and had alot of fame and fortune and adulation poured onto him as a mere teenager. Alot of young men are twatish and egotistcal its alot to do with the age and maturity of a young man. He's not a kid anymore but he aint a mature man either so he is stuck in that awakward place in between that produces twats. But Khan as he gets older might grow out of his twatish ways and become more respectful and mature and modest. There is hope for him yet as he is only 21 or 22 and already seems like he is becoming a more grown decent person.
you'll never get an honest answer on this forum many ppl hate him becuase hes a ''paki'' whoever says hes an arrogant ***** can STFU, he hasnt openly disrespected any one and he hasnt come close to being arrogant as naz. A large percentage of people hate him based on demographics in england you'll find allot of hate towards pakistanis its funny how ppl like to ignore this
Personally, I don't mind him. I don't quite see how people can get so upset by what he says. He says some silly things now and again, but he's pretty young. I understand the argument about him being undeserved of his wealth etc, PPV, but thats the nature of Capitalism, and not really Khans fault. I don't see the same people who moan about it posting about a socialist UK revolution. Being popular and English (England isn't Britain), young, wealthy, of Asian origin: are all unfortunately going to guarantee you a hate mob before any real reasons to dislike come into the equation.
Part of me wants to see him do well, the other part wants me to see him humbled:think Maybe I'm going schizo:scaredas:
I think thats why people also hated Naz ..I don't care for him because he's over hyped his ethnicity for me has nothing to do with it ..But the fact he is facing one of my long time favorite boxers makes me dislike him more !! WAR BARRERA !
I always liked Naz, funny and usally said all his BS with a smile on his face like it knew it was all bollocks...
Naz was great. If he had treated his defeat to Barrera as a wakeup call and learned how to box he would have gone on to be a superstar. Instead he looked on his defeat as the end of the line. Khan has not done that. Instead he has bounced back from his defeat and decided to change. He has gone to the best coach in the world and , basically, said " teach me to box". His problem is his chin and he can`t get round that. No matter how well Freddy Roach coaches him he will still take the occasional KO punch. However he is so powerful and dynamic he will KO the best when he gets lucky. That`s how it will be for Khan. Freddy is wrong. If he loses tonight he can still come back and beat the best. We should all encourage Khan. He will never be boring!!!!
Really? I thought he sounded quite mature and confident...a changed man from the man/boy he was before Prescott...I think he is right...I think he has changed and matured a bit...remember...he's 22, and preparing to fight Barrera!
Yea, I'm not having a dig at him as a person - but I sense a little apprehension from him going into this fight. I was just going by the body language and what he was putting out in that interview. I think he is doubting himself if he can beat, MB. That is just the vibe I got... As I said earlier in the thread: I have no problems with how Khan comes across as a person... I quite like him.. I realise I'm in the minority though.... Personaly I hope he wins tonight, for English Boxing... for British boxing... as a boxer he's pretty entertaining... he's young...
He does seem nervous but I hope he can use it positively in the fight. People complain about Khan being a hypejob but Khan generates alot of interest in the sport...everyone is talking about this fight at work and IMO that is great for the sport.
