He said when he first turned pro that he would be retired at 25?

He has jumped ahead in the pecking order ahead of more deserving boxers (john murray*) and will be lined up for a title shot if he beats barerra

*i hope khan vs murray happens, murray is undefeated and british champ

Like it or not being an Olympic medalist lets a boxers jump the pecking order.

Khan won his Olympic medal. People talk like it was handed to him.

Out of all the recent British medal winners I have seen, Khan has been the most impressive, imho, even though he only came away with a silver.

It's just a pity that chin is made of china.

For his sake he better hope MAB doesn't tap that chin ..As I recall Barrera is still a pretty sharp heavy handed puncher ..Slow but acurate ..

Underlying a lot of Khan hate is from the fact that he is a Muslim and of Pakistani heritage. Then they hide behind the excuse, hes too cocky and arrogant. Khan was booed at the weigh in, they shouted abuse at him and his family. I mean come on!

Khan is confident, but certainly not cocky. He has a fighters heart and gives it his best in the ring.

As for those that say he got undeserved opportunities well there is at least there is some argument there but still no reason to hate him to this point.

I think it's different for everyone....some people do hate him for racist reasons....youtube comments (as meaningless as they are) and other ignorant rants show that.... some people do hate him for his ultra-stupid (cocky) answers.... when he was beating up bums he was coming out with comments about "i'm at world level" without even being British champ.... There are other reasons as well...... Like people see his great weakness in his chin and like to be proved right by seeing him being KO'd..... then there's the Hamed factor where a lot of ignorant people associate the two even though they are further than the earth and moon in terms of style and skill... there's also a lot of bitterness by fellow brit boxers who think they have missed an opportunity due to him (although I believe the opposite - would Limmond be known had it not been for Khan?)

The only problem I have with the hate and mocking....is the extremity.... it's ok for wanting him to lose or even get KO'd.....but the level of abuse for a fellow British fighter who represented Britain well at the Olympics.... and is NOT the biggest twat in boxing by a long shot.... I think it's totally unfair to put the level of hate to such a level.... If you like the tough mexicans....if you like the Warriors and those guys who go out fighting and giving it all...... then surely you should like Khan and like to see his fights.....

Khan has showed great heart and has made some great viewing in his short career - both because of his heart and his vulnerabilities....he's been of the floor several times to comeback and Knock the opponent the out..... that what we fans should love....he's shown the warriors heart at a relitively yuoung age.... even against Prescott he showed some pride if nothing else....he got uyp and showed (his fololishness) by trading instead of trying to recover...... WE loved Benn for his Character and Heart....IMO this kid has shown great courage in the ring under huge expectations and has stood up ion the face of a lot of abuse....

Look at Frochs recent interview on Setanta and what a dick he came across as.... He's 31 and he was asking Bunce "who do you think would win between me and Calzaghe" ....he showed complete lack of class or graciousness.....even the likes of Chad Dawson and Taylor praised Calzaghe in his retirement...Froch just looked stupid.... and Froch had the nerve to have a go at Khan....that's Envy for you and I believe that's the reason behind most of the EXTREME Hate we see from the British boxing fans

    good post Redando5

Aye, Carl "itchy crotch" Froch did came across as an idiot and dislike him as much as I do, I would still support him against any foreign opposition. Why?.... because I wish all our Brit fighters well and that includes Fraudley!

Obligatory bump... for the Khan Fight

    Do you still hate him?

How many haters have become supporters?

Would also like to add option to the poll (but can't) : How many people have changed their mind about Khan now and like/support him?

I have no problem with Khan at all, never have. I'm surprised at the amount of hate towards him on this thread.

I hope he wins tonight and goes on to take out Hatton.

I don't mind Khan, sure he's naive and opens his gob without engaging his brain but he's not a bad lad, sure he's a **** driver but the same could be said for most people in this country who use 4 wheels.:tong

The people around him I'm not so keen on though(apart from Freddie of course), he also draws an unsavoury element to his fights(of both types - pro-Khan yobs and anti-Khan yobs).

I dont like him due to lots of things.

I think in general, its boxing fans that dont like him.

Aside from the fact he is chinny, protected, hyped, thick as a plank, delusional, plays the race card, and has had an awful lot on a silver spoon, its the media coverage he gets that really gets me pissed off.

I mean whenever he fights even a no hoper bum there are countless features and articles on him when fighters who actually deserve the coverage get nothing. It pisses me off that he is also much better known in the UK then much more accomplished and proven fighters.

I am always rooting for him to lose when I think about it. Just to stick it to those part time boxing journalists on his bandwagon, and to those ****ing know nothing casual fans.

So by comparing 2 figures from the sports of snooker and ski jumping you claim to have tapped into the national psyche?
