Why is Lacy's name still mentioned?

I like Jeff Lacy, and i think hes a SOLID fighter, but why...when people mention the 168 division...do people keep mentioning his name as a top contender? as i can see, that shoulder surgery did him in. he can hardly be called "left hook" anymore (see manfredo fight)...and he almost got beat by that other vitali...

so again, why do people keep saying 'taylor vs lacy' or 'kessler vs lacy'.
i can give the guy the benefit of the doubt that he can show better than the calzaghe fight...but since then he really has only degressed?

When someone is that feircly hyped for that long the tail of the comet is enough to light up the fighter for a few years regardless.

He needs hammered again before the afterglow will dissapear alltogether.

Remember, they used to link his name to Tyson's.

People still want Lacy to be good because of the beast he was before. People remember that fondly.

oh dear. yeah i remember hearing that tyson reference. even then, it seemed like total bs tho. i almost feel bad for him if they try to put him against kessler.

I agree with your assessment on Lacy however as for Taylor he(Lacy) acts as a stepping stone to a bigger fight.....Despite Lacy's subpar performances he still has name recognition.....I am curious as to if and when Lacy will dig himself out of the grave dug for him by Joe Calzaghe...

Lacy needs to fight some brawlers. Until he learns how to jab he shouldn't go anywhere near a boxer. He should fight miranda.

I think it's worth remembering - whatever Lacey's worth or otherwise his job is still better than yours or mine. I'd love to be in there getting outclassed by Kessler for 800k, or whatever it is he gets paid.

I agree. Di Bella mentioned Lacy first when he spoke about super-middles in relation to Taylor. Couldn't believe he said that. Lacy is so obviously complete crap at this point that I can only think Di Bella got away with it because Lacy is American and that gives him some unknown pedigree that never goes away no matter how poor he looks in fights.

I would certainly take 800k to be outclassed by Kessler!

Doubt Lacy would see it that way, he would want more in return for the arse kicking he would get!

He should stick to fighting brawlers - any top 10/15 12st fighter who can box would have Jeff in serious trouble.

No matter what anyone thinks of Jeff, no one can deny that the guy isn't a warrior. I feel sorry for him.

Like the last poster said Lacys a warrior i just watched his fight with Calzaghe again and even tho he was schooled the beating he took for 12 rounds and he was still standing shows how much of a warrior and a hard SOB he really is, People on here who knock Lacy wouldnt have been able to stand up to the beating he took and make it to the end.
