For many a victory for Manny Pacquiao on May 7 seems almost inevitable. Out go the cries that Shane Mosley is old, slow(er) and a shadow of the man who ruled the lightweight and welterweight division the previous decade. Some of this is understandable. Mosley was slowly tenderized by Floyd Mayweather for ten rounds, while his fight against Sergio Mora was positively interminable. Manny Pacquiao meanwhile won a belt in a record eighth division and booked Antonio Margarito into a reconstructive plastic surgery appointment. One fighter is being called by many to retire, while the other is facing calls to hold off such talk for as long as possible.
:think I think you answered your own question. Oh, and Shane hasn't won a fight in over 2 years. Oh, and Shane hasn't been consistent in 8-9 years.
It's obvious, Shane is a shot 39 year old and has been inconsistent for half a decade without a win in 2 years, while Pacquiao is an offensive beast in his prime looking to make a statement.
This thread is stupid... if you don't consider Mosley a heavy underdog then you haven't been watching boxing for the last few years. YES Mosley is CAPABLE of an upset because he is a great fighter. But the chances are slim.
which is a chance, but that is about it. Mosley obviously no longer has the hunger he once had, his recent performances show it, the man is ready to collect his last paycheck and retire.
Shane IS old and he hasn't been prime since Forrest beat it out of him. He's still a threat because of his power but he telegraphs his punches quite often. Pacquiao should use his speed by using lateral movement to avoid those shots then aggressive counter and afterwards get away. Rinse and repeat and Pacquiao WILL beat Shane just as long as he doesn't get too careless. Shane will not handle Pacquiao's speed of foot and hand well and will fight gallantly but fall short of victory.
THeres a part me that tries to convince myself that maybe Shane could turn the clock back for this fight.. I mean IMO Shane only looked about 70% of himself(prime Shane) vs Mayorga and Cotto, but iMO he looked like prime Shane vs Margo... And i dont believe that Margo just made him look that way, Shane was ON that night. I like that Shane over Manny. ... But he looked old vs Mayweather and couldnt pull the trigger, and just in case May was just brilliant and all wrong for Mosley... Well Mosley looked bad again and was lucky to get a draw with Sergio Mora. His is a somewhat live dog because of his power though..But THere is no way he can keep with Manny right now.. And unfortunately since he has such a big heart and great Chin, he is gonna take a beating... Looks very strong in pics but that wont bring back his reflexes, timing.
