never said he was a bum, but he really wasn't a proven fighter at all.....winning rounds vs chavez was something a lot of people did, it was winning the war that many failed in......:good

ward or dirrell, wtf....manny aint proven there, but he wanted a piece of the 154 pounders, so why not go for the absolute best and atleast try to negotiate with maravilla.....

It's a question of weight, not height and reach.

Paul Williams was much taller than Mike Tyson, idiot. But should he have fought him because he was taller and had a longer reach?

Martinez comes to the ring at 170lbs now. Pacquiao weighs 148lbs.

If you are OK with fighters have 22lbs differences on fightnight, ask Pacquiao to fight Abner Mares (weighs in 118, rehydrates to mid 120s) or ask Martinez to fight Chad Dawson or maybe even Steve Cunningham (both around 190 in the ring, Dawson slightly less, Cunningham slightly more).

I proclaim this thread to be a resounding and rather stupid:

margarito while a great feat, has never knocked out middleweights ala sergio martinez

what would be the point of a martinez fight anyway if it wasnt for some kind of 160 pound title....fighting him at 154 would be pointless, nothing to gain....
    but to reiterate
pac has fought 1 catchweight fdight at 154
sergio is an established champion at middleweight who has punished everyone... 154 is still weight class # 11 for pac.....is unheard of and just plain idiotic for you to not only want him to fight a middleweight, but the #1 middleweight out there...who is at the peak of their game....it would be a mismatch, pac would get hammered....

Are you saying Pacquiao should continuously move up until he gets blasted out? Come on man, this is a guy who started at flyweight, moved up 12 weight divisions, and is currently fighting in a division 1 or 2 higher than his natural weight class. There have been very few in the history of boxing who jumped that much weight just to prove greatness. Heck, I respect Marvin Hagler a lot but he stayed in 1 weight division in his entire career, oftentimes fighting guys who just moved up. This is why I always consider Pacquiao as a better southpaw than Hagler.

As for JMM III yeah I agree the best weight is at 140. Too bad the fight is at 144. But come to think of it, it's JMM who's been chasing for a 3rd fight. After the first fight, it was Pacquiao who was chasing for the second fight. Pacquiao obviously has the leverage in negotiation so I guess this is the best JMM can get. It seems fair since the first 2 matches where in weight classes that JMM is comfortable in (and Pacquiao seemed to be drained).

the fight is pointless at 150

if the point is to fight sergio at middleweight and take his ring title of best 160 pounder, thats one thing...to fight the best middleweight at a catchweight of 3 pounds over welter? whats the ****ing point and whats in it for pac?

are some of you guys implying that martinez vs mayweather or vs pacquiao is a 50/50 fight if they were the same size?

If Manny's got a belt there then he should be able to defend it.

    agreed

just have it at the weight in which he won it at, 150

yes its dumb to hold a 154 belt, but aint his bad, boxing allowed it
