Ok undefeated in 49 fights, but i believe he only had 5 world title fights. Won the title and defended it 4 times right? How some people can rate him about Lewis is beyond me. Too small....heck he'd be a small cruiserweight!
Actually he had 7 title fights,he fought the best outthere from Archie Moore to Joe Louis and he was never defeated and unlike the undefeated fighters of today he risked his 0
one of the reasons is, although they were great fighters, his toughest opposition were old men and Moore and Charles came pretty close against him. still one of my faves though, such heart and will to win at all costs and a very underated D he would take shots to get off a monster of his own but a lot of people don't realize his d was underated, he could slip punches when he wanted to.
The truth. Before commenting on something they know **** all about some people should try reading a book about the Rock, he was a great fighter. Small yes, but surely that should actually enhance his greatness rather than have people sneer at him because like Tyson he pretty much always beat guys that were way bigger than him. He should be in everyones top 5 heavies.
if you are rating your top 5 on who beats who i wouldn't have him in my top 5. If you was to rate you top 5 on who was the top heavyweight during there era then yes most likely top 5.
Rock had fantastic heart, stamina, power, and durability. Never had quit in him, even if he was less technically skilled than some of the guys he went up against.
Just out of interest if you had him on your 'who beats who head to head' list, where would you have Marciano? This kind of thing is interesting. I'd still have Marciano top 10 personally even though he'd be facing guys that are way bigger than him. Rocky was a real fighter, unlike most of these (admittedly big) shells of fighters we have today. Purely judging on achievements at his chosen weight at the time he fought though, he's top 5 definately.
That's what seperated him more than anything from the average heavyweight. He KO'd one guy with half his nose hanging off, purely because he knew he had to or he'd lose. Compare that to VITLAY againat Lewis where he was cut to **** but was winnning...as I said before Rock was a REAL fighter. He never lost, he never ducked anyone and for those 2 facts alone he deserves recognition and respect - he was also a damn good human being too.
