Because Barrera was past it. Same reason Marquez/Casa is rarely brought up.

One intresting comparison of the two is

Barrera is the puncher who learned to box

Marquez is the Boxer who learned to punch

It is a shame this fight wasn't made a few years earlier.

    Mmmm, no.

Me and my mate always wondered how that fight was so easily forgotten. It was a great fight and Barrera done him self proud that night.

That said, although the fight was competitive I thought Marquez was a clear winner of the fight.

It's been discussed plenty on here.

As a huge MAB nut (and someone who followed him long before even discovering JMM) this was no robbery whatsoever.

Because MAB was too over the hill for it to really matter.

Exactly. That fight says nothing about Casamayor's abilities. MAB-JMM says nothing about how they'd match up in their primes.

Marquez detractors like to bring up how competitive it was in spite of Barrera being past it.

It's the same with Maidana naysayers pointing to the Morales fight.

Fact is, EM and MAB are warriors and didn't just sputter into uselessness on the way out. They followed jagged, inconsistent routes looking poor some nights and then raging against the dying of the light on others in attempts to turn back the clock and find some of the old magic and fire. For Morales, it was against Maidana. For Barrera, it was against Marquez.

Barrera was not near prime when he fought JMM. That is why it is not seen as very significant. A younger Barrera would have beaten JMM.

A younger Barrera would be fighting a younger Marquez who fought nothing like he did in their '07 encounter.

    Try again.

Had the KD been counted, i would have it a 9-9 round.

JMM was dominating that round, and got caught with a flash knockdown. Would have scored it a 10-9 round for Barrera since Marquez was winning that round big...but of course Marco Antonio in utter frustration, goes over to hit Juan Manuel while he was down, getting a point deducted thus the 9-9 round.

This fight has THE greatest display of technical skill shown from BOTH fighters in a fight, than any other in the '00's IMO. :deal

    10-8

shouldve been 10-9 Marquez but the knock down wasnt ruled for Barrera...

i usually dont complain about Lampley but his bias in this fight towards Barrera was ridiculous.

Edit: Correction...if the knockdown counted i think actually it wouldve been a 9-8 round for Marquez. he won the round and the point deduction for Barrera was legit.
