It's unfortunate to see around 1,000 threads on Floyd vs. Ortiz, Wladimir vs. Mormeck, Vitali vs. Charr, etc. all claiming that they are "disgraceful fights" for a p4p ranked fighter. Yet I have not seen a single thread about Marquez vs. Sabaupan; an opponent FAR worse than the aforementioned names. Charr is a bad opponent who is still better than Sabaupan, AND it's a clear retirement fight for Vitali, yet Marquez' future bout is blissfully ignored.
I understand why he's not fighting a top guy. he wants that fourth pacquiao fight, and he deserves it. it's that simple, and I hope he gets it.
I think Hagler was discouraged by the fact that he couldn't dominate the fresh off retirement Leonard. He did get slightly robbed, nothing to picket about. But what it all comes down to is, he let his own self down.
hagler has spoken on his retirement directly after the fight with leonard and the reason was that he felt robbed in that fight, which is why he quit boxing and moved to milan.
Well, of course that's what he's gonna say. Boxers are notoriously stubborn. That **** doesn't happen overnight. He may have already been contemplating retirement, and this was his excuse.
i could feel the hate on this one. officially pac didnt win their first fight, although erroneous judge scoring should've given the victory to pac. 10-7, anyone? how could you say he was robbed? atsch
I watched that fight the other day, I thought Marquez won 9-3. According to polls conducted after their second and third fights, more people thought Marquez won the second and third fights than not. No hate here dude, just the straight truth.:deal
Imagine Marquez vs Bradley or Matthysse? That would be amazing :bbb Matthyssee will most likely need a belt first though.
"If I didn't understand what happened in that fight, then it would bother me," Hagler says. "But I understand they took the fight from me. I don't know if they paid anybody off, but I beat Leonard. I look at the film and think, 'What are these people talking about?' I almost had him out in the ninth, but the bell saved him. Hearns had him out twice, but didn't finish him. Hearns has never been the same since I finished him. None of my fighters are ever the same. And Leonard is not the same, either."
