A fighter who has been Knocked down on several occasions, a guy who loses to Gate keepers like Freddy Norwood/Chris John. If Calzaghe lost to guys like that would any of you rate him P4P? This guy is a solid Feather, who can "compete" against top opposition.
I think Freddie Norwood and Chris John were more than "gatekeepers". When Marquez fought them they were both undefeated, and they were both very close fights. Keep in mind , the 126 pound division is deep as the Pacific.
Chris John is still undefeated and Norwood happened early in his career. He survived 3 knockdowns only to get robbed of a decision victory. I seen Pacquiao winning a total of 3 rounds during that fight with Marquez.
I posted this thread in reference to the Hamed vs Marquez thread. (Who would win poll). Everyone has completely discounted Hamed (presume based on the performance vs Barrera) My argument was why is Marquez so highly rated when he has been beaten by fighters who I believe are not on the same level as Hamed. Norwood and John.
Boxing does not work that way. You could say "Doug Jones nearly beat Ali, so Tyson would ruin him". And then someone could say "Buster Douglas beat Tyson, so Ali would humiliate him". working out who would win a fight is far more than wins and losses. It's about style, strengths and weaknesses. Marquez is a better fighter than norwood or John. He's the most technically gifted fighter of this era, surpassing Mayweather even. His resume isn't brilliant, but it doesn't show his true ability. I think he could have beaten Morales, Hamed and possibly even Barrera, in their primes. It's incredibly futile to sum him up based on his resume.
have you seen the norwood fight ??? many say he was robbed have you seen the john fight ??? well same ****, many say he was robbed.... have you seen his schooling of pacman (**** the cards) have you seen him ass **** barrera when he could've easily outboxed him, he chose to give the fans a exciting fight.... have you seen his shutout over juarez.... have you seen when he raped victor polo (the same guy that got robbes vs harrison) have you seen when he made peden quit.... what about his wars with jaca and jandaeng, these are guys he could've easily outboxed, but he went to war to prove that he can mess with the big boys too.... marquez is one fighter that you can argue about still being undefeated.....not only that, the heart that he fights with doesn't usually come with pure boxers/counterpunchers...marquez might be one of the most complete boxers in a really long time....:good
hmm...u made some degree of sense. I guess that dramatic comeback and draw against the highly-touted Pacquiao contributed to that. The world loves raw courage and sympathetic with live underdogs. Not to mention though that Marquez is one of the best counter-punchers at present...
just cause chris john don't have a name dont mean he sucks ass....i watched some clips of this guy (aside from the marquez fight), and he's a pretty solid champion.....
I started a thread in Classic recently about the best champs from the far east. John got a couple of shout outs for the lower end of the top 20. I think he's a pretty good fighter actually, solid champion may undersell him a bit. How did you score his fight with Marquez? Do you agree Marquez is a fighter who would do very well over 15 rounds?
Isn't John the #1 rated featherweight? He has the most title defenses to date for the featherweight division. Marquez was stripped of his belts after the Pacquiao fight and was on a mission to obtain his belts. The mark of a true champion ... Norwood happened so early in his career, it makes no sense to compare -- Pacquiao also has 3 "L's" and has been stopped so what are you saying. I'm sure the guy that stopped Pacquiao would get crushed by Marquez.
2 POINTS FOR MARQUEZ......alot more rounds could've gone his way based on slickness alone, and him being the more polished and better fighter, but i gave john some close rounds just so i wont sound biased......
