OK, this is the second time you’ve basically accused me of saying something I neither said nor gave any impression of. I didn’t defend a damn thing. Do not try to claim otherwise. You’re driving this conversation where you want it to go. Seems like you’re the one having fun with the racism angle. Just gonna copy and paste this, since you missed it. “once again this is not fact but educated conjecture. Forgive me for speaking in general, sweeping terms when covering broader areas. Not saying this applies to all or there aren’t exceptions, etc” Easy. The best athletes aren’t wasting their time in the boxing ring anymore. They’re going for the real big bucks on the football field, basketball court, or baseball diamond.
The fact that there are few top American boxers in the higher weights nowadays, but still quite many in the 130-160 bracket, could perhaps be seen to support that. But have the earnings in these sports really risen in comparison to earnings in for example HW boxing?
With this said, though, I don't think this made such a significant to his standing. Even if he faced Kostya straight after Castillo and beaten him, many would say that Kostya was in need of surgery and breaking down at that point. And if the fight happened after the surgery, it would of course be more of the same. Judah a couple of years earlier would be a good win, but still the guy who was iced by Kostya. Facing Cotto and Hatton earlier wouldn't make that much difference, I think. Seeing how Cotto had his best wins later, it could even be said by some that he was a bit green at that stage. Margarito and Williams were good WWs, but nothing spectacular. Same with Bradley, Brook and Khan. So, of course, beating all these guys would enhance his resume, but it wouldn't silence the critique of him not beating any greats in their prime. Beating Pac five years earlier would go some way in doing this, but the fact that Pac was a former FW would be used to downplay this win. Had he done all these thing, though, it gets harder to keep him out of the top 10, for sure.
Hernandez Corrales Sosa Ndou Corley Gatti Mitchell De La Marquez Cotto Berto Were I believe all unranked at the weight they fought Floyd.
That is absolutely untrue. On two separate occasions, Manny agreed to Floyd’s demands, yet the fight still took until 2015 to be made. And when it did get made, Floyd used the corrupt and incompetent USADA, where he himself cheated and took PEDS.
The top basketball players make in excess of $40 million a year on salary alone. Not even taking into account endorsements and the like. In boxing, only the top 1% roughly make the real money. Everybody does in professional team sports, and they earn it much, much easier.
Yes, but wasn't it pretty much the same before? The earnings in boxing below the absolute top was lower than in football, basketball etc. I think at least. And the top earners today definiitely keep pace with other sports.
No ,you didn' t you're just a thin skinned, argumentative, self righteous ,self important guy who wants to make outlandish claims and have others swallow them. Did I see you on the TV the other week in Washington wearing a bulls head dress? You're lucky you caught me before I put you on ignore, go argue with yourself I'm too old too give any attention to fantasist theorists who suscribe to Nietzshe's crack pot ideas.
Very well said. I would go further to say that had he fought Oscar on an even playing field such as at 147 pounds , the gloves of his choice etc he would have knocked Oscar out like Pacquiao did.
He was undefeated in the ring, the only time he lost was outside the ring to his late childhood sweet heart Josie Harris when he was incarcerated for 3 months. I know he regrets how things went down with Josie and misses her the mother of his children. Thank God his other childhood sweet heart Melissia Brim is around and they now have a new grandson.
I don't understand why people are so obsessed over discussing, arguing, theorising and getting wound up about who is "the greatest of all time". It's just a can of worms and there's no single boxer who is the greatest of all time. It's impossible to draw an accurate conclusion when you have to factor in different eras and all of which encompasses.
