I want to make clear that I am not insulting the guy. I don't think he's a total phony, or anything. He has some real physical talent, but is totally untested in terms of his chin and stamina, and may not develop the real skill that he needs because he is being told that he can just go in there and steamroll everyone. And the end result of that is often a Prince Nassem- Barrera type situation. Why is everyone so confident that he is the future?
Cause people who know what they’re looking at know he’s good. Don’t know how good but better than likes of Joshua Parker etc
Why does any undefeated prospect get hyped? Itauma is no different to anyone other prospect that some over zealous fans get behind and hype. It's just what happens, not just in boxing but all sports. People put their hopes on an athlete they like and support them regardless of what they have or haven't done yet. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing either, hype can result in more fans being drawn to the sport if the hype is big enough. I'd also add not everyone thinks he is the future. He's just the most impressive prospect right now and so the one getting all the hype. No different to when Hrgovic had beaten Mansour and Molina with ease and people on here had him the heir apparent.
Hahahahahahahahaha…no, seriously, hahahahahahahahaha. Better than Joseph Parker? There are some real morons in here.
Good lateral movement, moves his upper body well, can box or bang, southpaw, solid defensive guard, effortlessly smashed Mckean who took Hrgovic 12 rounds, only 20 years old. He is by far the best heavyweight prospect outside of Opetaia imo, but yes he is overhyped, he hasn't been chin checked yet
The narrative about beating Mike Tyson’s record and becoming the youngest heavyweight title holder certainly helped and added to the hype. How many other young prospects over the years have been able to use that eye catching narrative to boost their profile at the start of their careers?
Age Have to push him at the right rate though. In the past they'd coddle this geeza for 2 or 3 more years but I don't think they can afford to with Turkey money flying around....he has an unbelievable platform to work with. Nobody to somebody overnight. But he isn't a bum dosser he's sparred the big boys and talent is normally found in these sparring sessions... I want to see how he handles a punch though because at HW it can be hero to zero overnight. You have to have physical gifts to handle these punches...or become a defensive wizard.
He's a southpaw with good fundamentals and plenty of potential. People have been hyped over less. Definitely over hyped, but should have some exciting fights.
The British had total control of the Heavyweight division post-Klitschko era and have lost it to the Eastern Europeans. They're coping with the loss by hyping this guy up. Americans did the same thing with Wilder. I think calling him the best Heavyweight prospect is fine, but God dang man, he's literally fought nothing but bin men and hypejobs. Let him fight someone with a pulse.
Is no one even going to mention the stone tablets he trains with? Because those are a lot more important than just training weights.
Some good points here so far. I'd say its mainly because of his age ATM and his unique fighting style, and of course his unbeaten record. IMO, I think Itauma is very talented, and has potential but I cannot comment until we have seen his stamina, chin, and heart tested and also being tested against a good proven live opponent that will come to fight like Whyte, Miller, Chisora. If Itauma fights one of these guys it could well be a similar affair to Joyce V Dubois and Whittaker V Cameron. And, I am not particularly confident he would beat any of these guys I mentioned especially Whyte. We have seen so many hype trains derailed over the years, its normal, and its part of the sport.
