Why is Nonito Donaire not a bigger Star?

He is a bantamweight. I really like him though, he's a great fighter and deserves more attention.

 

all 3 should change. i feel like he will become a well known superstar if he beats the top fighters at 126... but it will be a challenge for him because his size, height and reach will no longer be an advantage and can expose his flaws making him drop in p4p rankings.

i gives a **** what the filipinos in the phillippines think and I doubt the boxing promoters do too. they don't generate ppv buys.

and that's why the boxing community don't consider flips form the PI boxing fans.

 

Those ****ers are what made Manny's fame the way it is now. Those ****ers are the reason why PPV was invented. Those ****ers are why fights generate hype. Those ****ers can care less what a hardcore boxing fan like you posting on a forum says.

Nonito isn't on the same level as Manny since they don't like how Nonito treated his father and that his wife passes herself like a ***** on Philippine TV the few times she was interviewed.

That is an idiotic statement. Not like every Ali or Louis fans where boxing fans, probably most are your typical mainstream fans. Pretty sure what made ODLH the top draw for a decade was NOT "boxing fans". In fact, some of his fights had been reported to be 70% of ticket sales where from female fans. These are not boxing fans, just followers of him partly because of his looks and material success.

Ali attracted authors, artists, politicians, civil rights experts, actors, etc who never noticed that Ali barely went to the body.

Louis had a country all behind him and was a star mostly for patriotic reasons even though he dominated a generation.

This actually says a lot about Pac because he has transcended his sports. He has allowed non boxing fans to follow him, just like Tyson, Ali, Louis, and ODLH.

And we are talking about being a "STAR" - being a active member of ESB has nothing to do with it

Very true, but it does not mean he has "no personality". He is not a walking billboard of himself unlike PBF, Haye and unintentionally Tyson. He has personality but it is not loud. It might be a slow burner. We wont really know until gets on the spotlight.

Your statement is false. He was already a star in the Philippines and to a good degree in Mexico BEFORE ODLH.
The bout with Oscar made him a star beyond his country, specifically here in the US.

I was referring to casual fans in general. And funny you resort to insults, because as far as I know Filipinos live in the Philippines, and not living on boats. Casual fans are the reason PPV was invented, and casual fans include the likes of Filipino fans.

Filipinos have been Manny fans ever since he won his first title at age 19. The Philippines have a show called Blow-by-Blow which covers amateur boxers there. OLDH made Manny into the PPV star he is now, but in no way have the Filipinos jumped on the bandwagon after OLDH. Heck, they didn't even know about OLDH until after the fight. All they know is that when Manny has a man opposite him in the ring, he's going down.
