Why is Oleksandr Usyk the WBO's mandatory challenger?

I get what your saying, and equally feel for the contender you haven't mentioned but have definitely referenced.

But for me, I think that Usyk's run at CW and pfp status is equally worthy as what the contenders at HW have done. Whyte for example, is clearly the number 1 contender right now, and has been ****ed around for years, but Usyk has been wiping out the CWs and moved up as the most acclaimed Fighter in the division and the one with the best résumé and pfp ranking, I'd say that's a good enough reason to cut the cue.

My overall opinion of it is that Usyk is entitled to get a title shot, but shouldn't be allowed to take somebody else's mandatory spot, or jump in front of them.

I agree with the ruling in some ways for fighters like Usyk and Crawford etc who are pond for pound greats giving a higher weight a crack as it potentially unlocks some super fights. However as the WBO are seriously corrupt in giving fighters fights that their promoters usually Frank Warren and top rank Want. Look at Saunders vs Isuzu for the vacant belt. How isufi was even ranked top 10 let alone fight for the belt is mind boggling

And that much we can agree on.. by al means get a title shot but not at the expense of the hard work and effort made by other fighters who earned their way in their division

Like Usyk can carry a title shot card to use whenever he wants but not pushing someone else off the chance where theyve earned it rightfully

let both have a shot thats fair enough

The WBO rule and not only was he the four-belt unified king at CW but he won all his world title fights in his opponent's backyards sans one when he fought on neutral soil. Unifying all the belts, winning all your world title fights and unifying all the belts in your opponent's backyards without a single official from your home country to help facilitate your path to victory is badass with a capital B. And he wins all his fights fighting within the rules and if he fights AJ he'll fight him in his backyard too just like he would've fought Ruiz in his had he won on Saturday night.

How many world champions and fighters would be willing to do all these things? Some former P4P elites wouldn't even travel to their opponent's backyards once let alone do so time and time again at the drop of a hat. Usyk deserves every bit of good fortune he gets as far as I'm concerned.

Thats all well and good but at the expense of others? Whats it got to do with other people working hard getting pushed out of the queue?

Fine.. Usyk is amazing... so you
Punish other people when they did nothing wrong?

I like Usyk more than anyone, but I'll be honest: if this was anybody else in his place I'd think it was total BS. :sisi1

@Serge basically summed it up - this is okay simply because we're talking about Usyk, and Usyk's awesome. On principle, no, this is all messed up.

I don't mind it because he was undisputed. I think hes more deserving of a shot at a belt than many contenders

I don’t see why anyone would have a problem with this. Usyk cleaned out cruiser. In fact he did it the hard way, fighting every top challenger in their own backyard. Won nearly every fight convincingly, fought frequently, always came in in top shape, the guy is a total professional. He’s not a diva, insisting on catch weights or special rules to give himself an advantage, never popped for drugs, etc. Boxing needs more guys like Usyk and I’m rooting for him in the big guy division. He’s giving up a lot of size and I still want to see him face one of the giants but if anyone has earned the right to be named a mando, it’s Usyk.

I don’t recall anyone complaining when Crawford did the same thing when he moved to WW, the weight he should have been at for years. At least Usyk wants to fight big names, unlike Crawford who has managed to duck every top WW fighter.

Because Usyk is P4P top 5 and is better than every heavyweight, so deal with it.
