Why is ortiz suddenly a beast and actually a threat to mayweather??

Honestly i don't know how some of you guys call yourselves boxing fans. This is a dam good fight. Ortiz is a stud. Haven't any of you guys watched his war with Berto? Absolutely a natural welter that can punch, who's also a southpaw is a threat to Floyd who is long in the tooth and quite inactive. This is an excellent fight. And a young up and comer like Ortiz definitely has a good shout and pulling an upset. Those of you that think it's just going to be a walk in the park are in for a big surprise.

floyds no berto, you think ortiz will hit floyd often then you are mistaken, ortiz will more than likely get demoralised very quickly and floyd will cruise to victory if not stop him late

Maybe, but nobody expected him to beat Berto, and he did. Now people are belittling Berto AND Ortiz, and that's because they want to belittle Floyd at any cost. Even if Ortiz lands 1 shot, the talk of Floyd can't beat Pacquiao will drag on as talk for days:lol:, but that's boxing fans.

This is the same thing that's said about all of Floyds opponents.

U should not put all floyd fans in the same bowl. Cause this floyd fan thinks ortiz will get owned. I think there on a diff level. He barely got a punchers chance. All the hype is BS. Im still happy hes fighting.

No one is ready for Mayweather or Pacquiao.

They're on the top of the mountain, they don't lose to anyone but each other.

:patsch You close minded stupid ****. What many have said is, that fight said more about Berto then Ortiz. Berto was living off hand fed opponents. IT not a way to belittle floyd. That's just how a little fanboys likre you think.

Ortiz is NOT a threat to Mayweather at all, for several reasons:

    1. He's 2-1-1 against his four best opponents (Maidana, Peterson, Berto, Campbell), and 1-1-1 against his three best.

    2. More tellingly, he failed to get a decision against Peterson even with a 10-7 round to his credit, being made to look silly at times against the crudely slick skills of Peterson.

    3. Mayweather may very well be aging and not as fast anymore, but he's so fundamentally sound that it doesn't matter. It's not speed that makes Mayweather dangerous, it's his defense. Stylistically, Mayweather could fight into his 40s with the same level of effectiveness. As he ages, he continues to shift from Jones, to Toney, to Hopkins. All three of them are tall orders for anybody out there.

    4. Mayweather is used to fighting at a high level after long periods of inactivity. Don't expect ring rust to play any role in this.

    5. Ortiz' only hope is getting a KO off of a huge Mosleyesque shot. But Ortiz is not a strong finisher, as shown against Peterson.

That's not to say Mayweather cherrypicked him. I think it was an inspired decision, and the next best fight in the welterweight division after Pacquiao. But just because it was a good decision doesn't make it any less of a foregone conclusion. :)

Ortiz got outboxed by Peterson and quit against Maidana. How big of a threat is he to Floyd? Not very. Once a fragile mind, always a fragile mind.

Berto was one of the most overrated fighters in boxing and it turns out he wasn't as good as Peterson.

Because he's a young, hungry lion... isn't that how all the floyd fanboys refer to him?

The move up to WW has given Ortiz a new lease of life he should of done it after maidana fight but I expect mayweather to win but with Ortiz's youth and power he will give Floyd problems

Ortiz fought Maidana before he had 24 bouts under his belt.
He is 24 years old, at his highest confidence level, stronger and more comfortable at 147.

Floyd has fought 2x in 2008,2009,2010,2011. 1 vs 36 year old JMM who fought at 125 the same year he fought Floyd @ 147 and 1 vs a 39 year old Shane who was out of the ring for 15 + months.

People jumping the gun assuming Floyd is going to be as fast and sharp as he was during his prime. That is just not possible. Floyd has shown very little power at 147. There is also a recent trend of judges favoring volume over precision. I think Ortiz feels he is catching Floyd at the perfect time and throws a high number of power punches from different angles, enough to give Floyd trouble early on at the very least.
