Why is this pound for pound number one fighter and fighter of the year and fighter of the decade and the people's champion and 7 weight division champion who is trained by the Trainer of the year (freddie Roach) an underdog against Mayweather at the bookies?

same reason everyone thinks Tito, Hearns, Oscar, Forrest, etc... would destroy Pac. He's not a proper WW

Ok, then please explain why something like 70% of people think Tito would knock out Pacquiao at 147, yet if you ask them who is the better p4p fighter prime for prime, probably more than 70% of people would say Pacquiao

It's a crazy thing this Boxing malarkey...2 years ago it was outrageous to comprehend Manny Pacquiao fighting effectively at Welterweight but now that he's defeated Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey, he doesn't even seem to be getting credit for breaking new ground. It's almost as if some people here always had him down as a 147 pounder.

I feel Floyd Mayweather is favored in this fight for an assortment of reasons. His "ballin'" fan base couldn't ever imagine the man losing, and the casual fans come to the conclusion that Manny Pacquiao's reckless style can be easily capitalized on by someone with Floyd's mobility and skill-set.

I'm just not to convinced the ballin' fan-base have any idea what they are talking about, and I'm certain that Manny isn't half of reckless as often advertised.

    Because Mayweather is better.

Because Mayweather is the better fighter while Pacquiao is the greater fighter.

Mainly because of the styles clash.

Also, I disagree with people who say he is not a proper Welterweight...before the Clottey bout, I would have said Pacquiao's best weight is at 140lbs...but he looks very comfortable at 147lbs now, the only real disadvantage he has up at 147lbs now is his height and reach.

well I understand you can disagree, but what do you think of the situation I described above?

There is a thread about who wins between Pac and Tito at 147, and 70% of people voted Tito by KO. However a poll asking who is the better p4p fighter in their primes would probably have Pacquiao ahead of Tito. How can you explain that discrepancy?

The problem is, Pacquiao has been very successful up at 147lbs so far, and he is always going to be carrying the tag of being the "smaller" man until he retires (especially if he stays at 147lbs). I've posted before that I thought Pacquiao's best weight would be 140lbs (he would be at his fastest and strongest)...but after seeing him in the Clottey bout, he seems to be developing into a full blown Welterweight in the same way Mayweather has done since he came out of "retirement".

The reason the poll results came out like that maybe because people are still seeing Pacquiao as the "smaller" man...

Agreed. I think that similarly that's why Floyd came out as the favorite against Pac as well.

I think what the thread starter is trying to suggest is that if Floyd is the favorite against Pac, it shows that Floyd the one who people really consider the better of the two and therefore the rightful p4p king and FOTD, but that people don't want to admit it because of some kind of bias against Floyd.

If that's what he's trying to suggest, then he's wrong because that's simply not the case.

I have them on even terms. Only the die hards have Pac as an underdog mainly due to size disparity. The funny thing is 8 out of 10 (or so it seems in my region) casual fans truly believe Pac will knock out Mayweather. Yet they will still say Pac is an underdog just to get the mass to believe Pac has accomplished something Godlike if or when he beats Floyd.

Because pac shouldn't even be matched up against floyd. People would have been banned for suggesting this years ago...

at 140 lbs and below there is noyone that can beat pacquiao. 147 is pushing his body to its limit and i believe he is beatable there. there is however a significant difference between being beatable at 147 and actually doing it. the damage pac inflicts on his opponents can wear them down very quickly. if pac gets off to a good start he can beat mayweather. if he doesnt mayweather could pick him apart.
