Even being more of a Pacquiao fan than a Mayweather fan, I must admit, Mayweather is definitely the more skilled fighter, and has a better grasp of "The Sweet Science" - but that isn't to say I think Mayweather could beat Pac...but that's a whole other story. So why does Pacquiao, who has lost 3 times, and has made his name by beating SUPPOSEDLY shot fighters get more props than the undefeated Mayweather? Pacquiao is no lower than 25 or 30 on most people's ATG lists, Mayweather is not. Pacquiao is even higher on the great Bert Sugar's ATG list! So what is the real reason behind this? note* - I think Pacquiao should be ranked higher as of right now (top 15) than Mayweather (top 25 or 30), and I have my reasons, but it would be interesting see what everyone else thinks...
Pacquiao is more likeable. Nobody wants to give credit to a guy they don't like. There is an obvious bias against Mayweather and towards Pac. However, Mayweather refuses to play ball. He wants to do things his way. It's advantageous in certain ways but it's a disadvantage in other ways.
But it's true. Look how many people discredit Floyd's win over Judah because he was coming off a loss. However, tons of people give Pac a bunch of credit for beating Morales. Morales was probably past it and coming off a loss the first time they fought. He fought him again after Morales was definately past it, drained, and coming off of a schooling against Raheem. In fact, Morales was coming off a loss all 3 times Pac fought him(granted, he was coming off a loss against Pac the 3rd time they fought). Larios was also coming off a stoppage loss and went up 2 weight classes when Pac fought him to a decision. Barrera was coming off a loss the second time they fought. Clottey is coming off a loss as well.
In my personal opinion and the only real credible reason - the 2 year lay off. That caused PBF 2 if not 3 big fights. He would still be rated #1 P4P. He would have been declared Fighter of the Decade. He lost 2 years of his prime. The reality is Pac's resume from 2003 (MAB) to 2009 (Cotto) is the best in boxing. PBF could have had it but he has a big gap between Hatton and JMM.
Just check out their interviews. Pac came off as very likeable in the Kimmel Show, many interviews of Floyd his own fans say they cant stand him, they just admire his skills. So like its already been mentioned, its bias towards the more likeable guy. There is also the excitement factor. Many will go on about the sweet science etc as if they have the right to define what is the sweet science but matter of fact, Pac generally is just in more exciting fights. This again adds to the likeability factor. Resume. Pac goes out and destroy top fighters, people can make all the excuses they like but at this point, Pac definitely has the better resume.
Judah just lost to Baldomir. The Pac-Morales situation was slightly different, Morales unliek Judah was a legend and just 10months before had beaten Pac, this was a rematch set. PBF had no obligation to fight Judah, Pac NEEDED to fight Morales to avenge his loss. Regardless, the Morales that showed up against Pac was completely different than the one that failed to make weight against Raheem IMO...as was was the Judah that turned up for Floyd vs Baldo. The Barrera 2 fight was a filler, it made money, MAB gave him the shot first time, it was only fair he gave MAB a rematch and made made excuses about MAB's forest fire back in the first win. Larios was a tuneup...still a better tuneup than Sharmba Mitchell IMO. Sure Clottey is coming off a loss, but this is a bit like saying its not worth fighting DLH after he fought Tito or Mosley cos he was coming off a loss. Coming off a loss dont mean anything if you performed very well in your loosing effort, if anything that fighter is more dangerous, more desperate.
Morales was blown out by Raheem. When did Raheem become a world beater? Mayweather and Judah had a contract drawn up to fight eachother before the Baldo fight. He had just as much obligation as Pac did. I'm not tryin to hear that. You think anyone gives Wlad much props for avenging his loss against Brewster by beating a washed up version of him? It's a clear double standard. Hell, even Cotto gets props for beating Judah , and that was after he came off the loss to Mayweather. It was a waste of time. Everyone was killing Floyd for rematching Oscar and that fight ended in a split decision. Pac destroyed Barrera in the first fight. The rematch was pointless. Imagine if Floyd rematched Gatti. Don't try to justify this. You know damn well that fight was a farce. That's because you have no interest in being objective. Larios had just got starched in his previos fight and went up two divisions. So now you're comparing Clottey to Hoya, Tito, and Mosley? Clottey is not in that league. The fact that he's coming off a loss to a guy Pac just destroyed makes it even worse. Everyone knows Floyd would never get away with this ****. Hell, people were giving him crap for mentioning Cintron as an opponent.
Pac is getting less props for fighting Clottey than Floyd got for fighting Judah, and that's despite the fact that Clottey beat Judah. Clottey lost a controversial SD to Cotto. Judah was clearly beaten by Carlos Baldomir. If there's a double-standard, its clear as day who it favours.
Way too much logic and boxing analysis. That is useless on most Pac fans. Next thing they will talk about "ducking" Margarito completely ignoring Arum's and time lines affect on the situation. It is a lose-lose talking to them about Mayweather.
You're vision is clouded buddy. Pac was getting jock ridden like crazy when that fight was announced. The only reason the enthusiasm was subsided is because it's being overshadowed by the Mayweather/Mosley fight. Larry Merchant, Brian Kenney, and all the rest of them was all up in Mayweather's **** for taking that Judah fight. We all know how people on here feel about that fight.
It's a combo of pac being more fan friendly, humble, and a risk taker to fight for more than just money. Pac is a people's champ while floyd is a cherry picking, immature, haughty ***** with ALOT of talent who doesn't use it to his full potential.
