Why is Pavlik a more popular fighter in the U.S, then say....Chad Dawson?

I quote you again Pimp, because it's a damned good point. Why in the **** does Shaw always have Bad Chad either out in Cali or down in Florida (Tarver Country), or name it, other than promoting big shows around his home town and state area??

He could be promoted as "Their" Champion, you know, and people love to have a hero and buy that ****. Just don't make no sense. If he got a big New England constituency to back him, it gathers attention from surrounding areas, then you go nation wide. **** ain't rocket science.

Damn, that very good point......Suprised nobody else has mentioned that

Today, the road to mainstream boxing stardom goes through HBO. I think Dawson getting a couple of big fights on the network would go a long way in making him into a star. It worked wonders for Cotto

You are right. 100 %. But we did kind of cover that earlier, and it goes to Gary Shaw. He's up Showtimes ass, can't think of hardly ever seeing him or his fighters on HBO. Don't know if he's pissed somebody off at HBO, or Showtime just gives him keys to the gate...know what I'm sayin?

Shaw needs to let this diamond shine, get him some fights up around his Home town/ where ever he grew up, bust out a couple of big shows promoting him as THEIR champion up there, and it could start to take off IMO. He's got the skills, he's good on camera, moves and looks good in the ring, scores KO's often, WTF more can Chad do?

Shaw need to get off that ass, and do his job...which is to make this STAR into a STAR!

I'll highlight a few fights that I think contribute to Pavlik's popularity. In my opinion the keys are "audacity," "intensity," and "drama."

October 2005, Pavlik/Zuniga on Telefutura. Two good prospects fought for the vacant NABF title. Pavlik got put on his ass right out of the gate. Looked like he was in real trouble for a few minutes, but he took over and forced Zuniga to quit.

(This also included a career threatening hand injury and surgery followed by the longest lay off of his young career.)

July 2006, Pavlik/McKart. Pavlik defends his NABF title in a come back fight on the debut of Fight Night On Verses. Bronco was obviously past his best, but he was not shot to **** like he is now. For the first 4 rounds McKart did a good job of staying right in Kelly's chest, and making a fight of it. In the 4th round Bronco caught Kelly on the shoulder while he was off balance. KP's left glove brushed the canvass, and the ref correctly ruled it a knock down. Round 5 Pav throws a lead right to the body, and suddenly the double tough McKart is on his hands and knees struggling to breathe. In round 6 something that had previously been almost unthinkable happened: Bronco McKart got knocked the **** out.

January 2007, Pavlik/Zertuche. The number 2 and number 3 WBC contenders fought for a shot at the champ on HBO. Pavlik said he knew what people wanted to see, and it wasn't a boring decision. He stole the show with a brutal knock out of another fighter who had never been stopped. After the fact, someone decided the fight wasn't a real title eliminator, and Kelly had to fight Miranda.

May 2007, Pavlik/Miranda. At the time Miranda was regarded as an unstoppable monster. HBO wanted to make him a star. They picked Pavlik to make Miranda look good. Kelly said, "He can't fight going backwards. I'm goin' in flat footed, back him up, and knock him out." Jim Lampley stifled a laugh. Once again Pavlik stopped another fighter who had never been stopped, and stole the show with a high light reel KO.

Setptember 2007, Pavlik/Taylor. One more time Kelly hits the canvass. He spent 2/3 of round 2 on ***** street, and came out in round 3 like nothing happened, and handed Taylor an ass whoopin' that not many middleweights would have survived. In round 7 the undisputed, undefeated, champion who dethroned Hopkins took a jab-right-hand in the middle of the ring that he never recovered from. Just like Buffer said, somebodies "Oh" had to go, and another fighter who had never been stopped bit the dust.

February 2008, Pavlik/Taylor II. Kelly proved that even with injuries to both hands, and fighting above his normal weight, he could still go 12 rounds with one of the best in the business, and win.

Audacity, intensity, and drama; Bad Chad, who I think highly of, has not provided those things the way Pavlik has.

I was just trying to highlight the things I mentioned; audacity, intensity, and drama. Those things add up to popularity. I was also trying to highlight the progression of Pav's career, and the journey from Telefutura to main events on HBO.

Always plenty of Pavlik haters on ESB along with a few honest critics. I do not think they have any idea how much fun it is to be a member of The Pavlik Nation. It's nearly always high drama.
