His name sounds like he is not American .... beside that he is white and looks nice and polite ... all wrong for him.
WTF does that have to do with anything? Mostly people like to cheer for their own. What do you think, Americans are somehow different?
it just takes some guys longer..,look how long it took bhop and hagler to get to the star level..,if kelly keeps winning he will get there.:good DAN LAW
hence baseball called world series but no other country is aloud to enter a team.it should be called u.s. series.
poland/uk/ show huge ammounts of live american boxing and lots of delayed boxing like your espn shows which are on nearly every week. for example paq v diaz is on live this weekend. taylor v pavlik 2 was on live etcetc this has been going on for 20 years in the uk. despite the anti usa fighters slant you read, IMO a lot of it is tit for tat you slag of my fighter i will slag off your fighter posting. all american top boxers are well known and have there fans in the uk. poland to i suspect. and hardcore fan for hardcore fan per thousand the uk still has a huge boxing fanbase.
He is a big draw ... he's American, white, and from a blue collar background ... There's more people that can relate to that than any other boxer in the biz ... he's from a small steel mill town ... both parents are in the house hold ... he trains hard to make up for what he lacks athletic-lee ...
The problem is not Kelly Pavlik, the problem is boxing in general is getting bad reviews. There are too many boring fights where the outcome is sure and predictable. There are too many boring boxers who don't fight when they get in the ring. Boxing competes for the entertainment dollar along with many other sports. It is a competition which boxing is losing and ultimately that affects great prospects for super-stardom like Kelly Pavlik.
Who says Pavlik ain't a draw? Boxing overall is in decline, but I think Pavlik is a good draw comparable to RJJ at this point. Anyone attempting to assess Pavlik's drawing ability based upon the Lockett fight is clueless. No one other than Pavlik's immediate family would waste their time on a total "non entity" fight such as the fight w/ Lockett -- virtually no one in the US had even heard of the guy and when they did hear of him, there was nothing to hear. the fight was a joke and no one but tyson could sell a fight against a total non drawing opponent such as Lockett
Pavlik is a pretty big draw already but he's just getting started. You see where he's at a few years down the line if he keeps on winning.
Boxing continues to just sink and disappear from the main stream Roy was a star during the Tyson era so there is residual fan fare and some name recognition. Promotion and Hype, when you KO Jermain Taylor and only get 15 seconds on ESPN its hard to build a following among the casual fan. The average viewer will regurgitate what he is fed constantly by the media and although you may not give a rats ass about Tiger Woods or what he does you will be fed a constant barrage of video on ESPN until the guy is ingrained in your subconscious. It really boils down to the amount of news media coverage on ESPN and the mainstream Sports News Networks wlling to play the highlights and discuss the fighters that would bring recognition and interest to the casual fan
Because not everyone enjoys sloppy, 1 dimensional fighting like Pavlik brings. Note that the biggest stars were always flashy elites.:yep
Tyson and Marciano weren't flashy. Neither was Julio Cesar Chavez. In fact Pac doesn't really fit your description either unless you consider the his handspeed being flashy. But I know what the hell you're getting at.
