I rewatched some interviews before the Khan-Judah fight and realized that Sweet Pea is slurring his speech badly. I mean this guy never took really punishment in the ring...**** me he barely got hit. One of the greatest defensive fighter ever! I really dont get it :?
I think James toney said (along the lines) "I got hit more in sparring practising technique than actual fights" Could be the same thing.
He's crack drunk, like Roger Mayweather. Destroying your synapses will do that to ya. Sounds like when teachers say "dont do drugs" they arent just trying to be lame.
I guess some guys just take it better in the long run. Pernell did have an extensive amateur career and had been boxing from a very young age so there is probably some damage that we don't know of. Compare him to say...George Foreman? Guy took some ****ing monster shots and wasn't exactly the Pernell of the heavyweight division. He seems to be talking fine...well...you get what I mean. Crack may very well contribute to it.
I think fighters who aren't used to getting hit and suddenly take a bad beating or two, end up with more brain damage than the others.
Sweet Pea is only in his mid 40s. So these are not good sighs. But 50 odd pro fights, an amateur career and years and years of sparring, is a lot of hits in the head.
