Why Is Pulev So Avoided If He's Average?

As soon as Pulev fights Wlad and in all likelyhood loses as expected, he'll go from "the most avoided, best HW out there" to "the bum Joey Abell dropped that Wlad still had to cheat to beat."

Thompson swept four rounds and made Pulev look bad, then Pulev came on and swept the next eight as. Very easy to score, 116-112 with no wiggle room either way and with a clearly identifiable shift in momentum as Pulev 'woke up' in the fourth. After that he discovered his 1-2, cut the distance, took away Thompson's jab, and worked the body - while Thompson got increasingly more fatigued and sloppy.

Honestly it says nothing one way or the other about Pulev, except that he a) starts a bit slow and can fall victim to giving away points early if you don't let him warm up and b) can remain calm, stick to a game plan and overcome adversity. So there are positives and negatives to be taken away from the experience. :conf

I'm far from a Fury fan but he really didn't duck him for any reason other than he wanted a massive domestic payday against David Haye.

For what it's worth I don't think Fury could compete with either but I don't think it was anything than the money on offer for a haye fight that disrupted this fight with pulev happening. If the fight with Chisora was made and eliminator I'm sure he'd be all over that. I don't think he'd win but he'd def be up for it.

Would love to see that. I am sure Pulev is looking for an opponent at the moment but you definitely need some tune up fights now. Wish you get back in the ring as soon as possible.

Yes, that is the real Fast Eddie Chambers' account.

Not much shame in losing rounds to Thompson. Thompson is one of the few to win rounds vrs. Klitschko.

Adamek never "pulled out", he turned the IBF eliminator down once early last year when he wasn't feeling well and had some issues to deal with. But Tomasz offered to fight Pulev later in June, but at that time the IBF turned him down for the eliminator.

Bryant Jennings twice turned down the fight with Pulev, and your buddy Tyson Fury turned it down as well. Ruslan Chagaev as well said no.

Finally, Tony Thompson accepted the IBF's offer to participate in the final eliminator against Pulev.

Pulev said in an interview he was rusty after his long layoff. Thompson has an awkward southpaw style and unusually long 29.5" arms, so Pulev took a little while to adjust.

Adamek ran scared brah. Deal with it.

Your bias for cossack fighters is ridiculous.

    No shame.

In addition to giving Doc Steel Hammer a couple of his more challenging title defenses, Thompson had just twice knocked out the ESPN 2012 prospect of the year, after all.

Yeah, using the early going of Pulev vs. Thompson to knock Pulev seems a bit silly to me, when the last two thirds might actually speak greater volumes about his positives about him than the first third speaks about his negatives. Worst case they cancel out.

PUlev fought on August 24th. So Fury could easily have taken the challenge and arrange his party with Haye for Christmas time. I believe Peter Fury thinks that his boy is not ready for great deeds yet. Tysons mouth tells different story though.

He's well above average. Problem is that he's a high risk low reward type of boxer. He draws very few viewers and poses a huge threat to 95% of the division.

Pulev is very solid in everything he does, just not special at anything.
