Why is Rigondeaux such a big underdog versus Donaire? - how much money did you make?

do you know how to read odds?

he's hardly an underdog, not even a 2-1 underdog in some books.

Yeah... maybe they are standard 60/40 odds...:think

...but I would have expected something like 1.4-1-8/ 2.5-2.8 instead...

Maybe professional bettors will enlighten us.:good

1.33/2.75. What is their relative chance of winning out of 100? on the model of 60/40. Please show me how the maths works too.

What? As simple as 1.33/4.08 and 2.75/4.08 i.e. 67/33 Donaire, with the size of the decimal fraction determined by what it would take the punters to get buying and given how much action of each the punters are taking, such that the house always stays ahead in any eventuality?

Basically most bookies suggest if they fought 3 times, Donaire would probably win 2 and Rigo 1

Donaire has been on a long and mostly consistent run of top form since upsetting Darchinyan eons ago (in boxing terms); whereas the most recent lasting impression of Rigondeaux in this fickle, what-have-you-done-for-me-lately sport is struggling with Marroquin. It doesn't help that he's so light on pro experience heading in with a proven 3-division champion, but to seem not to be carrying lots of positive momentum tips it.

Yeah, I get that. So the size of the numbers must be determined by what it would take to get the punters interested in the risk, right? And once they're buying the size of the numbers and the ratio between the two numbers is determined by how much of each the punters are actually buying, given that whatever the outcome, the house is still going to be ahead if they've calculated the original odds right, right?

It's the bold bit I'm most unsure about how they're calculating.

That's boxing. You said it best. Opinions change on a fight to fight basis. Gambao is a great example. He went from total beast pre-salido, to after salido was "exposed" a little for somewhat struggling, back to beast when he murdered Solis back to meh not so good against good fighter Farenas. People are fooled to easily.

The odds are too close if anything.

This is a professional fight, and Rigondeux is getting knocked out. Amateur boxing and professional boxing are two completely different sports and Rigondeux will be outclassed and knocked out cold in brutal fashion.

You can't go from fighting absolute nobodies to an elite P4P fighter and expect to win.
