For me personally, Roberto Duran is one of my favorite fighters, so call me out if this is just a normal thing or if there are great fighters that are just as hated as Duran.

And when I search up Duran’s fights, I’ll always see some form of “No Mas” in the comments, ignoring his greatness.
Either this is just a normal thing, or there is a phenomenon that makes people hate Duran.

    What do you think?

The second and third links don’t work. Just search up “Roberto Duran is quite literally the most overrated boxer in history *******” and “Roberto Duran ATG? Give me a break *******”

I'd say he's more loved than he is hated and I think he always does well on favorite fighters or GOAT lists.

What I've found is that his opponents rarely get credit for wins against him and that has often rubbed me the wrong way. That aside I have him among the ten greatest P4P and maybe top 5 best on film.

Duran was the greatest lightweight of all time and his first performance against Leonard (who was in his prime and one of the greatest welterweights of all time) is one of the best boxing efforts ever, rivaling Frazier's effort in FOTC. Duran was one of my favorite fighters too but my frustration with him was his inconsistency due to often ballooning up between fights and inadequate preparation. When Duran was motivated and prepared later in his career, he showed his greatness in his fights against Hagler and Barkley. I believe if Duran had the discipline and work ethic of a Hopkins or Holyfield he would have surpassed Robinson and would be considered the greatest fighter of all time.

This reminds me a lot of a joke Rodney Dangerfield once said. He said "I was out with this girl last night, real classy girl. She covers her mouth every time she farts." Now, I don't like jokes like that because I have a very high disgust sensitivity and anything vulgar and bodily like that is bound to make my stomach sour. But it's still a joke that I understand. All too well. See, the girl had very poor proprioception, I guess. So, I mean, that's funny but in a tragic, dark way. Because that's medical. It's not like a jolly, fluffy sense of humour. But when I think of Roberto Duran it's got mouth-covering fart behaviour written all over him.

He was my older brother's favourite fighter growing up, but could never warm to him as a kid as I thought he was a bit of an animal.
I do remember, however, being pleased when he beat RL after Ray destroyed Dave Green.

Alright, let me put it this way: Say you hire this girl who looks like a prime Garcelle Beauvais, in a very cleavage-heavy black dress. She is doing your dishes when you get up in the morning and stumble into the kitchen. She looks back over her shoulder and says "Good morning." and then giggles and apologises for not having worn any panties that day as you and she both notice her bottom is clearly exposed as she is leaning over the sink. Now, her sincere apology is not necessary. You and I both know that. Then she says something to the effect of if you "get any ideas" that it's okay because "I'd be to blame." and "I'd have to accept...it." and then she goes on to continue slowly with the dishes. What are you going to do? Now, in this scenario, what I'm likening Duran to is like that weird scrubby, corny dufus looking utensil being used to reach into the glasses to clean them. I mean, I don't think he deserves to be hated or anything and he's clearly got a special skilll set but if someone doesn't want to think about him because of other things going on there, I guess I would understand it if they came off kind of angry or scoff about him or whatever. Does that make sense, Levook?

The only link from this website is taken from the General/world Boxing board so i wouldn't read too much into it.

On this forum he has his detractors, his nuthuggers and those between the two extremes like most huge name fighters.

Some fans may not like his nasty, wild, taunting, sneering, knocking over little old ladies along the way persona that he had. In the ring I don't know whats not to like. Like him or not Duran was genuine.

He's one of the main reasons I became a boxing fan. I'm sure many others.

Didn't he literally win the favorite boxer poll on here? He's on average the most liked fighter on this board. Sure there's dissenters but he's not hated by many at all

Only the new generation of boxing fans that seemed to question
his greatness on a consistent basis.
But he is with out a doubt the greatest lightweight in history in
my opinion. It also can be inferred if he decided to stop at
Jr. welterweight for a few fights he would've been the greatest
of all time at that weight, and in the top ten at welterweight
if he were disciplined . Think about it, who else beats him?
Benitez and Hearns were moving up in weight, Leonard
    was retired.
Curry? Maybe? Maybe not, but I would love a focused
version of Duran over him, Especially after Honeyhan
took him apart with his aggressive brawling style.
McCory? Though a similar build He isn't Thomas Hearns......
Duran had flaws like any fighter, but to not see the
clear greatness of his skill level and his accomplishments
is silly TBH. One may not like his personal behavior, (And
really, other than the tactics he used to get in Leonard's head
    how bad was it?)
But his greatness is undeniable .
To answer the question are there fighters more hated Duran.
Of course their are, one of his opponents, "Sugar"
Ray Leonard , Gets much more hate and is maligned much
    more
than Duran. Most of it for the wrong reasons.
