I think Toney is an borderline ATG, at least he is imo. Call out the ATG's and lets compare what they have achieved, with what Toney achieved and the people he actually beat. I don't think it is fair to suggest that he is not a ATG, a DEFINITE HOF'er, but his resume shows he is an ATG - winning titles from MW to CW while beating some really tough competition through it. It's not his fault that Nunn went on to become a crack head after he loss to Toney. And Toney nearly beat Sam Peter, he shouldve got the victory the first fight and he started his career as a MW.

If he doesn't make the cut for ATG, then who does? Should he not because he had poor dietary habits, which affected him in some fights, and arguably gettings gifts from 2 fighters (the one Italian guy and Reggie Johnson) and get robbed against Montel Griffen? I don't understand the argument of him not being one. Could he have done better? Sure he could have, but most fighters it seems these days dont really live up to their potential, Calzaghe being one of them for instance.

He didn't fight the elite guys at 160, because after he'd beaten Hopkins at 24, he was struggling to make 160. He'd also been held back by Big Roy, and he missed out on fighting guys like Toney (earlier) Jackson, McCallum and Nunn etc, because he was fighting the likes of Lester Yardbrough in Pensacola. After Hop, apart from Tate, he fought twice at 166, and once at 168. As mentioned, he was getting too big for the weight. Do you think if he was scared of Jackson and Gerald at 160, he'd have moved up to fight Toney, who was considered one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world? Makes perfect sense!

Rocchigiani only had two fights at 168 while Roy was there. A loss to Eubank, and a draw to Sellier.

Collins deserved a shot in my opinion, but his best wins were over faded versions of Eubank and Benn.

Benn was with King, and King wanted options on Roy. Roy's advisor's at the time, Fred and Stan Levin, didn't want to deal with King.

Nunn only had two fights at 168 during Roy's time there, but Roy definitely ducked/dismissed him at 175.

Eubank has admitted on numerous occasions that Roy was never his mandatory, and he never chased the big fights.

Brewer beat nobody of note while Roy was at 168, and lost to Lonnie Beasley, Rafeal Williams and Rodney Toney.

Liles was also a King fighter, and again, the Levin's didn't want to deal with King.

Reid was only fighting 6 and 8 rounders while Roy was at 168.

“I haven’t talked to him in over two months. Kerry Davis from HBO hasn’t talked to him in nearly a month, so I don’t know where he can come off and say anything like that since we haven’t had any conversations.”

With Jones contracted to HBO for five more fights and his star fading, the network realizes that Michalczewski is the one opponent who can help rejuvenate interest in him. After the Harmon bout, HBO's Kery Davis said he would go all out to put the bout together.

Davis said Michalczewski and his promoter, Peter Kohl, have made negotiating difficult. But HBO is moving in that direction.

"It's Michalczewski or bust," Davis said. "We've been trying to make this fight for weeks."

I was a notorious Jones hater years ago but I think when all is said and done he was a special and phenomenal fighter. He definitely avoided some big fights though.

Still beat a slew of contenders and former champs.

To say he is overrated is ******ed.
