Why is Spence rated so very highly?

I think he is an excellent fighter but he has got a very weak resume, he beat a weight drained Kell Brook who was about 70% on the night and still clearly won 4 rounds of the first 6, he gassed out later due to the big drop from Middleweight and his previous eye socket injury, other than Kell Brook he has no decent wins and a fully fit Kell would beat Spence so why is everyone thinking Spence would clearly beat Thurman and Porter? I just don't understand, how so many s&&t on GGGs resume and yet think Spence is the 2nd coming of Jesus, GGG has 7 or 8 better wins than anyone Spence has beaten.

Because at this point in boxing we have reached a point where you rate guys based on H2H abilities instead of resume.

The top guys dont actually fight each other anymore in their prime. Due to the fighters themselves and the promoters refusing to compromise.

It's not like anybody else besides Loma and Usyk fight the best. And Loma still hasnt fought Garcia.

You can't rate guys on their skills if they haven't fought the best, it's easy looking good against bums and C level boxers, I will give Spence due credit when he beats Thurman or Porter, Keith unfortunately has a big question mark over his head as hes been out for so long.

American boxing is at an all time low at the moment and the American fight fans are clinging to Spence for dear life, and over rating him as a result.

    It’s really that simple.

Many have not got over Floyds retirement and the fact there still hasn’t emerged an outstanding American fighter to replace him, as the great American hope.

It's true, Spence's fans love talking about eye test but gave **** to Golovkin, saying who he beat?

    Well who Spence beat?

Spence has been hyped for a while because he passes the eye test. Which means he has an exciting and fundamentally sound style that is pleasing to the eye. It's easy to watch him and be impressed. His punches are fast, straight, hard and accurate.

But having such a style it's easy to ignore the flaws because everyone is distracted by his strengths. His stance is too wide, I don't think he's a great mover. His footwork isn't bad, in fact it's good because he's always balanced which allows him to generate power and throw nice combinations with ease. But if he's forced to move, either forced back like Brook did or if forced to chase an elusive target I think you'll start seeing cracks in his make up as a fighter.

People compared him to Mayweather early on but I think he's more Vernon Forrest or Winky Wright than Mayweather or Hopkins in regards to boxing skill. He's a damn good fighter, probably a great one, but I don't think he's P4P number 1 material. There are better fighters with more rounded games right now.

The threads don't exist to back it up. There are more anti - Spence threads than there are pro-Spence threads.

I rate his win over Brook quite highly, it's one of the best wins for a WW fighter in the last couple years.

He went into brook's backyard, was in a REALLY tough fight until the latter rounds when he was able to break him down. What other fighter at WW is willing to go into the opposition's backyard like that to try and take their title?

From an optic standpoint, he has the look of a great fighter. My only knock on him from a technical standpoint is he can be hit relatively easy- his defense isn't bad at all but it's not on par with the very good to elite defensive fighters in the sport. That doesn't really matter though since the guy has a very good chin, likes to get into phone booth fights and has a seek and destroy type of mentality.

He's a beatable fighter but only at the higher weights. I don't see anyone at 147 lbs beating him. Crawford would stand a chance because of his technical ability but I'd favor Errol to stop him late in what could potentially be a FOTY candidate.

He beat a highly damaged brook and that is his best win at 30 years old. Compare his resume to 28 year old canelo.

Crawford, Thurman, Porter, D. Garcia, M.Garcia, Wilder, The Charlo Brothers, Andrade, Jacobs, The Benevidez brothers, Tank Davis and crop of about-to-be baddasses such as Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez.

This is off the top of my head. Sure I forgot somebody or 2 or 3. Sorry for that.

    So no.

Honestly, I dont understand neither. I fully agree with you. He's a good fighter, still the nut hugging is unreal, and because of no aparent reason.

I think it’s his mentality, he has supreme confidence, he is relentless and at this weight I just do see anyone who hits hard enough to keep them off him. You can also see how the people who have shared the ring with him view him, everyone who he has sparred say this guy is everything they say he is.

With that being said, he needs to get this fight with Crawford coz Porter is shook, Danny is gunna need to rebuild and Thurman has been running for years now.

Spence beat the living daylights out of Kell Brook in Sheffield. Brook was the reigning champion and in the opinion of most the best Welterweight champion in the world after he dethroned Showtime Shawn Porter. Spence fought his way to become mandatory defeating a good level of competition in style. Kudos for what we call the eye test. He just did not beat Brook he made him quit! Spence is Big Welterweight as well like Brook is so they both rehydrated. Brook did not win the first 6 rounds rather they were evenly fought rounds however in those rounds Spence put in the investment in body shots to set Kell up for the knockout in the 2nd half of the fight. No disrespect to Brook he is a real good fighter but Spence is better and he proved it. The manner of his victory over Brook adds to the allure of Spence. He beat the man. Thurman wants no part of him in fact Porter does not really want it but will take it. So will Garcia but would rather not. The only person who may beat Spence at 147 is the excellent Terence Crawford. Note emphasis on the word MAY.

Kell Brook is better than anyone on Crawford's resume. Spence would have stopped Benevidez inside of 7 last night
