Why is Sugar Ray Leonard ranked so much higher than Hagler all-time?

It would be too easy just to blurt out "multi-weight success", as Leonard beating Kalule and Lalonde is not as good as Hagler at his own weight beating Antuofermo and Mugabi - multi-weight success is a better achievement than single-weight success in general terms, but it is not a hard and fast rule that the multi-weight winner automatically beats the single-weight champion, or Oscar De La Hoya would be far greater than Monzon, Hagler, etc etc.

I think Leonard is a clearly greater fighter than Hagler because of the combination of multi-weight success, talent/ability/skills, and resume. There is not a lot between them in terms of resume, but Leonard's best wins (Duran II and the 1st Hearns fight) are both better than anything on Hagler's record IMO.

That's because you havent seen Hagler. Marvin's resume goes way back before Leonard's career even began, and was hitting the big time when Ray was in his first year as a pro. that;'s why Marvin has the better wins which should be expected from a fighter with twice the fights

Leonard - only two major wins - Duran and Hearns. that's it, that's all he has while Marvin has several big wins throughout

had ray met and defeated Micheal Nunn in 1989 it would have been a big thing for him but he didnt. he wouldnt dare because he knew Mike would be too fast for him and knock him out.

Still, if he were the fighter you say he is, he should have met him. Ray tried the next best thing and somehow found the courage to meet someone wasnt sporting a walking stick in Terry Norris. That didnt go too good and so becuase of this I can safely say you're full of ___________

and Just because someone holds a title doesnt mean they're any good. just Look at Kalule and Lalonde.

As for the talent part I dont know where you got that from.

I cant rank Ray Leonard as high as you because his chin was delicate. I am not attacking him but all you need do is see how he kept dropping to the canvas to understand his method for picking opponents

I have seen plenty of Hagler thanks. His resume is deeper sure, but not necessarily better in terms of quality IMO. Leonard's wins over Duran and Hearns beat anything on Marvin's resume, and his wins over Hagler and Benitez as good as the best wins on Marvin's.

Where do I get the talent part from? Watching them both fight. I think Leonard was a more talented/skilled fighter.

If you have seen Hagler then how is it you arent even aware that Marvin faced two common opponents Leonard-Duran and Hearns. Marvin has beaten better opponents than Hearns, Leonard, or Duran. You just arent aware of it.

Ray might have a decision over shell in Hagler and nobody in their right mind would deny Hagler was a shell. But even so, Ray fell apart quickly against the might of Terry Norris. That drops him dozens of notches in my book. His chin was like the finest of china and as I suspected, Leonard can only hit a slow moving, stationary target. he was never faced with anyone like Norris in his career and predictbly lost by a wide margin.

And this talent you're talking about is flash without substance. He doesn't take a punch well and is only capable only of flurrying for 20 seconds at a time. he does have the added capability of running when he's scared and doesnt want to fight.

YOu have to remember that I've also watched Ray and was far from impressed seeing him fall behind in the Hearns fight. Even his own trainer wasn't impressed telling him as he sat on the stool "You're blowing it!"

he didnt even give Norris a fight when he was favored to win. How does that make him better than Hagler? I really dont see how you can justify anything you said about Leonard.

He was just a flash in the pan and you know it.

Mate, I'm a big fan of Marvin, but you belittle Leonard too much!

Yes, Hagler was a shell of himself in the Leonard fight, and we shouldn't judge him based on that fight. Yet we should judge Leonard based on the Norris fight? Wasn't Ray a shell of himself then too?

Simple..... Hagler is "Blue Collar" who came up the hard way... Also, Hagler is just a dominant former Middleweight champion.....

Ray Leonard has '76 olympic gold and various world title belts... Plus, TV and the media praised Ray Leonard and gave him a lot of publicity... Simple....

Still, this doesn't justify Hagler being 25-30 places below Leonard in all time lists, imo.
