Five reasons why Sugar Ray Robinson is Greatest of all time - Some good points listed
- Undefeated in 85 amateur bouts
-91 consecutive wins as a pro
-Knocked out LaMotta in 13 seconds to become champion
- Won middleweight champion belt five times
-Fought the toughest competition and fought very frequently

Anything else you guys would like to add. Also, would you place him above or below Muhammad Ali

-He had at least 2 amateur losses.
-He was undefeated at welterweight.
-Almost won the lightheavyweight title, but colapsed in the ring in a fight on which the referee aldo colapsed from the heat.
-Fought everyone anywhere.
-Beat plenty of hall of famers.

The best ever! As to the Ali comment, Muhammad said he was the best ever! We should start a thread as to who was the 2nd best fighter to ever step into the ring....

Judging only by his record, you're probably right.
The problem with Harry Greb is the lack of footage on him.

He fought some of the best black fighters of all time in Henry Armstrong and Kid Gavilan.
Tell me which black fighters he should have fought.
Charley Burley was retired by the time Ray moved to middleweight.
Lloyd Marshall was a light-heavyweight.
Hollman Williams was retired by the time Ray moved to middleweight.
Cocoa Kid was his sparring partner.
Jack Chase was retired by the time Ray moved to middleweight.
Eddie Booker was retired by the time Ray moved to middleweight.
Aaron Wade was knocked out by Ray.
Bert Lytell was almost retired and fighting at lightheavyweight by the time Ray moved to middleweight.
And Elmer Ray was a heavyweight.
So tell me which black fighters where there to be fought by SRR?

Sugar Ray was so consistant in his prime. He won about 40 fights to start his pro career. Beating the likes of Zivic twice including stopping him. He also beat Jake LaMotta who was a Middleweight when Ray was still a skinny Welterweight. After losing to Jake in their rematch Robinson ran off an ungodly # of wins in a row against Welterweights and many bouts with Middleweights.
He turns pro in 1940 and he doesn`t lose a fight to a man his size until 1951! Not like he was fighting twice a year. He is one of those legends that the closer you look the greater he seems. Sugar Ray beat good black fighters. His Title fight with Tommy Bell was the unique because it pitted two black fighters for the title in 1946. Ray had such a following the fight was still marketable. George Costner was another dangerous black fighter that Robinson beat not once but twice. Kid Gavilan a top 5 all time Welterweight.
