Why is Sugar Ray Robinson considered the greatest boxer of all time?

Some say Robinson avoided too many of the top black fighters of his time. His style is very fan friendly and well filmed. That helps him a lot.

You could argue Greb, Leonard ( Who I think won 120+ fights in a row ), Langford, and Armstrong too.

 

Harry Greb went 261-17 and beat 13 ATGs and a plethora of hall of famers.. he is the GOAT

Agree that record wise a very good case can be made for Greb who has a gold plated, diamond encrusted resume. On the other hand if the GOAT label has a h2h component to it then we have a problem, because styles make fights and with no footage it becomes hard to evaluate. If somebody claims SRR is the GOAT I wouldn't hold it against them. You could argue that.

 

Only VITAL context is missing from each of those fights. Mainly VIDEO of them. The problem that people run into when labeling him the Greatest of All Time is, much of that is based on Newspaper decisions. That in and of itself can be very troublesome because of the bias some beat writers exhibited in that time. We've seen countless articles from respected men and journalist illustrating a bias for a particular fighter because they came from their hometown or the obvious racial bias. So if we're basing a guy's record solely on the word of some people who may not have been the most fair, well then, that calls into question how many wins or losses somebody really had. We can't see the fights for ourselves, and thus there is this huge elephant in the room when stating Greb is the GOAT. Even myself, I put him in my top 5 in p4p sense, simply giving him the benefit of doubt with such a crazy resume. No. 1 though, nah, that is a bridge too far when I can't see the fights myself

 

You should try watching fights.

 

Try watching other great fighters. You'll soon realise that there's been than Floyd.
